Smokey Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Hi, I am a new member, from Cape Town, South Africa. I have been racing pigeon since 1995, being an inspirational pigeon fancier, i have been facing with challenges as well. I have relocated and my pigeon's first round of breeding is fine, but when it gets to the second round, then the squeakers have wet droppings. I do supply them regularly with black minerals, vitamins and grit. What causes the wet droppings? I need advise please.

Smokey Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 Hi Michelle, thanks for the advise, Is this a common problem? I have gone to the site now. Looking forward to supplement my breeding birds with Gem-tapex.
Guest Owen Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Mix up the following. 3 or 4 grits, 2 or 3 clay blocks(pick stones) reduce them to powder, Vitamineral powder. Mix the lot up in a bucket and feed fresh every day in pots. I would introduce pellets to their diet and rather than leave food around in pots, feed several times of day without leaving any lying about. You did'nt say if you treated your birds for cocci, canker and worms before you paired up. And you did'nt say if the birds have access to fields. To be honest, if you can not correct this problem you are not likely to rear good racing pigeons. So with that in mind you need to sort this out as quickly as you can.

Smokey Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 Hi Owen, I always treat cocci, canker and worms before pairing up, always give canker pill three days before chipping. Stock birds prisoners, Do you think its necessary to put stock birds on a broad spectrum antibiotics before pairing up?
blackdog Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 get yourself some electrolytes and put in water when young are 10 days old but as owen said its best to feed 3 or 4 times a day, this way they dont just pick out what they want, i would also take away the black minerals as these contain a lot of salt.
just ask me Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 id also watch the amount of water they are drinking could be drinking more for some reason have one cock that drinks lots when feeding young ones and the dropping one the young can be wet after feeding could be drinking more water than normal for some reason
Smokey Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 Do you think it is perhaps my stock loft that is see through fibre glass roof? and the height is about 2metres.
just ask me Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 could be acting like a glass house and a big build up of heat which might make the birds drink more id get droppings tested as well

Smokey Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 Will you guys be visiting SA for the World Cup 2010, especially Cape Town?
Smokey Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 Hi Micko, cannot get PM through, it wont be a problem. How does a person go about sending it.
Fair Play Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 Capetown is a lovely place spent time Seapoint before travelling up to Johannesburg raced pigeons in Zimbabwe different ball game but managed to breed a pigeon that was 4th in Zimbabwe, Umhlanga Rocks to Bulawayo. Hope you manage to resolve your problem as the heat does crazy things to the birds and humans would check ventilation especially with the fibre glass roof
