Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Over the last couple of weeks racing has been going on do you think in general that racing starts too early in some places ?
just ask me Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 was thinking the same thing must be a reason why some feds start so early
OLDYELLOW Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 I believe yes it's starts too early used to be second week in April , id rather start beginning of May then be less bop attacks
sapper756 Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 it,s not been the weather for training, never mind racinghttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0126-nerd.gif
OLDYELLOW Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 it,s not been the weather for training, never mind racingvery true had a few good days to fly birds out but birds are only just fit now to see a basket , so be a few old birds to go next week and if weather out like ill get yearlings going
Guest IB Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 We start 16th April this year, a week earlier than last. IMO it's too soon. April weather hasn't been good for years, two weeks to go the weathers very unsettled and there's still very little green on the trees. It just doesn't feel right training pigeons when they are likely to be the only birds in the sky. Already quite a bit of peregrine activity reported on the forum, and in my Fed area too. It's my understanding they hunt to build the hen up before they go to nest next month, May, so really training & racing starting in May seems common sense to me, at least it would give our birds a bit of decent weather to limber up in, and the birds at least have a chance to get fit in relative peace.

That is when we start Ian but at the moment we are hardly able to let the birds out because of peregrines,we are keeping them in one day and then out the next sometimes very early and other times as late as possible to try and minimise attacks,we have two injured at the moment but hopefully they will start a bit later on as they are both 2 year olds so they can be jumped a fair bit once they have got a little bit fitter but the problem still remains very problematic for a few more weeks though it never really goes away plus the fact it has been very cold of late so not exactly good training weather
