Were starting to have real problems in shropshire, I lost two cocks last week sitting young as well, saw pair of sparrowhawks showing up to each other yesterday in woodlands behind loft, I suspect percy has taken the cocks though but did not see the incidents. :cry-blow:

:( i was sitting in the sunshine watching my new dutch/belgie babies this afternoon, there just starting to flutter around the garden, about 3pm,and yes, youve gussed it,big hen sparrow hawk over the fence into the middle of them.it knocked one into the corner and scattered the rest, luckily most of them flew in the loft door.lucky i was there watching,as one of my neighbours has a very large cat, however,i chased the hawk, and fortunately the youngster is alright so lucky me this time!but it,s a pure bandit, and a big hazzard of our sport,it,s really taking a lot of pleasure out of the sport now :(:(

I've often wondered about this theory with razor wires etc.Surely if the hawk cannae see it the doos cannae see it either??are you not asking for injuries or does it work well for yourself??

Bops come low and on line to strike so if at either end of your loft that's not a path your birds are going to take as they land as there looking to enter the loft not strike along it , as Billy was saying he saw the direction the bop took over top of fence i was giving him a way of protecting his birds , I had one bird taken last year when first let them out i bought my netting but not had any strikes as birds on lock up however if i was to be targeted again I have my washing line and pea - netting at the ready , but it does work :)

One of the effective deterrents mentioned in the SHU Raptor Study of a few years back, was fishing line stretched along and just above the top of fences or hedges. The person who used it (and recommended it) said when the hedgehopping sparrowhawk hit it, it was put right off its attack and, if I remember right, it would not come back for up to 6 weeks.
