i thought you had 2 reg to take any part in the forum

So did I, also I cannot understand how members can be invisable and still post :-/

not sure if i am right in saying in the admin control panel there is a setting where the webmaster can allow guests to reply to posts and indeed start there own threads up however i have not noticed instances on here when it has been done but it is certainly possible if the webmaster has allowed it or even clicked the option off by mistake

When you aren't logged-on you're shown on the Forum as a Guest. You don't have any buttons to create or reply to posts. So a Guest shown posting may be a quirk in the software, and what appears to be happening, isn't?

When I was a Moderator, I'd always come on logged-in, because it was both moderating (business) & leisure and I had more or less to read a lot of things I wouldn't ordinarily do as an ordinary member, and also be available for other members queries.

Now I am an ordinary member, its purely leisure, so I don't have to log-in, and usually I just browse, and if I don't want to post to any thread, or PM, I don't log-in . But I am not the Guest shown posting. When I do want to post I log-in, and I post as IB.

But I'm wondering if there's delay in the system recognising that change from Guest to Member?

As soon as you log of you remain a guest for 15 mins but your activity on the boards ceases straight away, so it still does not account for guest replying to a message. and if there are quirks in the software then all strange things may happen, best excuse yet from companies, it was a quirk in the software that made such a f##k, oops sory cannot seem to sort this quirk  ;D ;D ;D

Think you are right IB its a software problem and not that we have got guests trying to post   Im not sure but think possibly you can post as guest on some of the threads like Lost & Found but not sure

They were replying to code of conduct, which is locked :-/ :-/ :-/

So if there are quirks in the software is all our personal details etc safe >:( >:( >:(

If they were replying to the code of conduct where are there posts  :-/

I would guess that everything is pretty safe on here Ive never had any problems and i been using the site since it began but then what is 100% safe on the internet there have always been plenty of people who can find out your personal details or anything else they want safest way is if you dont want take chance of anyone finding out anything dont put anything on less you have to or dont use the internet

How can you say it is totally safe if there are possible quirks in the site software, the whole point, software is it is only as safe as programmers make it, Banks are loosing millions due to hackers cracking their software.

If you join a forum you are entitled to protection under the data protection act, you can't simply say don't use the internet.

I said it might be a software problem then again it might not and then again it might be a totally harmless software problem     I would guess dovescot but i dont know and i really got better things to do than spend hours on the internet trying to find out that any website host (or whatever you call them) would makes sure your site was protected   Why cant i say dont use the internet there are always new viruses and problems and always will be so it will never be totally safe as soon as one safeguard is put in place there is usually someone out there who knows how to break it

Rose you seem to be taking this personal, I only asked if anyone knew "how can this happen" you obvoiusly don't, as simple I don't know would have been suffice if you wanyed to comment. I never asked you or anyone to spend hours of their time looking, but anyone willing to do so and explain it would be more than welcome :-/

You cannot reply to a locked thread either. A locked thread has no buttons to do that.

Must be pretty quirky software because a Search on posts by Guest or guest both within 30 days and longer gives a big fat ZERO return.

So you can't explain it either :-/

The reason why it might show in the 'where is' section - guest replying to ...... could be  simply be where a guest has pressed the post reply button by mistake or was trying to post up to something and then realising that they can't.

I'm sure there is a simple explanation for it and people are getting too carried away with it - also richard wouldn't have a forum programme in place where people's details are not secure - I've seen him working on the website and the forum and everything is very secure.

I'll let Richard know about this and see what he has to say.  :)
