im moving house soon and thinking of making a new loft is 18mm shuttering plywood any good to make it out of and how long will it last

we used this material for the front of our young bird loft about 10 years ago and its still ok.

we used four large sheets butted together and nailed a 2" wide strip of thin ply wood over the joins to seal all the edges, this has worked well. ;)

Only tip I would give you is to keep the smooth side facing out. Generally, shuttering ply has 2 different finishes to its' sides, so keep the smooth one facing out, and things should be OK. As Oldyellow says, creosote substitute ( as it is now ) would be a good preserver, but don't be afraid to 'slap it on' and give it a few coats, as all plywood will absorb creosote like nobodies' business. Stay away from certain 'fence' preservers, as I have found their absorbtion is minimal. Best of luck with your endeavours.
