I will make no further comment on the subject, I have had my say, and you have had yours......... end of story. I do not wish to argue or fall out with anyone.

This for me is the classic example of two people being on different wavelengths, when I wrote the above it was not aimed at you or anyone it was meant as a general observation. However I expressed an opinion and you obviously disgree and I respect that. I don't think either of us was abusive in what we wrote. But from your post where you say end of story, there can in my eyes be only two conclusions, either you thought my tone was abusive and out of order, in which case I would unreservedly apologise because that was not my intent OR you find my opinion disagreeable and ayone who disagrees is a trouble maker.

The only way I find out and evaluate if I've got it wrong is by you or others coming back to me and giving me reasons why you think I have it wrong. I've made mistakes all my life and as I get older I thought I'd stop it but alas!! So please don't think of me as someone out to have a crack at you, it was not intended at you or anyone individual but everyone on the site.

Wel put m8....... As I said, we are all entitled to an opinion, and let me say I haven't taken umbrage to your comments, and understand entirely where you are coming from. My apologies if you think I was disagreing or if you though I felt your tone was abusive. So I will disagree with both your reasons cos I never thought that either way  :P. Like you I also make mistakes and I am the first to apologise if I am wrong. Life is too short for arguments  ;D ;D ;D

Nothing to do with the content of previous postings but the above illustrates what can go wrong in the cyber world in the real world we do not have a delete or lock button and we do not have a tone button apart from capital locks(deemed as shouting) where you get a true feeling of how a discussion is going in face to face contact. Members and mods(glorified members) cannot fully interact as if a mod is getting involved personally he has the power to delete, lock or block what an ordinary member is saying if he does not agree or like how the post is going :-/

It is also apparent that if you are liked or feared on the site your posts are treated differently to the ones that are not in favour or deemed trouble makers by some :-/

I just cannot understand why people cant stick to rules as layed down by Richard,o.k we all like a laugh amd a joke sometimes but I believe that was why the chit chat thread was started, dont forget everyone it would probably be easy for Richard just to pull the plug on this site at any time then where would we be.

Who on this thread is NOT sticking to rules........ we were asked to express an opinion and I think everyone has done that in an amicable way.......... Good criticism is the way forward.

Yes personal interaction is completely different to keyboard, it's so easy to type what you want without recourse.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That's why everyone will have a different view of who the trouble maker is and who the feared one is. If the mod thinks your post is making trouble it's going to go. That's the rules their decision making may be extremly grey for many but the rules are clear in black and white they have the power to do it. When we sign up we agree to abide by the rules.

99% of the time if a member posts the truth or or how he genuinely feels it is nothing more that, if this causes trouble for some on the site then they can be viewed by some as trouble makers, there is a small percentage that post lies knowing fine well that they are just that and if this causes trouble then they should be removed from the site, the grey area is what is the truth and who is just causing trouble for the sake of it

Personally I do not think mods should get involved in threads that effect them personally and when they do not like how the thread is going switch hats and control the post by blocking, deleting or removing information that they personally don't like :-/

normal prodecure is another moderator steps in when other moderators have an intrest in the thread running as i have seen recently :)

Fully agree with the first part of that pigeon man so long as those rules are seen to apply to ALL without a chosen few exceptions. As for the last bit, NEVER going to happen!

I certainly hope it doesn,t but how much can Richard take that is the question,I think a lesser person would of closed the site long before now.

I agree with you 100% there. If a mod is posting on a thread as an individual member i.e. not as a mod doing his job in modding the thread, then I can not see that s/he can Mod the thread when there is a personal interest. That is wrong and I would think Richard would not want that to happen. I suppose the problem is that those that are mods are also users of the site and want to be able to express their views to, if their not allowed to it may be more difficult than ever to attract them But yes Duncan I personally think you make a very fair and valid point.

It's interesting to read what members think about moderating etc and it is always a hard thing to do (moderating that is) and its good for a thread like this where members can express their views on moderating.

The views of one ot the moderators.

Everyone, as far as I can see has tried to be constructive and do what this thread was intended for. Why the talk of closing the site.......... totally unnecessary. I'm sure Richard, like the vast majority, has erred in his judgements in the past, and is big enough to accept the constructive criticism and evaluate the points that have been brought up here.

I have no problems with the site and the way its run. Sure, wires will get crossed now and again but that’s the net for you, no facial expressions to read bar a smiley here and there (perhaps Richard should add a tongue in cheek smiley). The more you posts the more chance you’ll upset someone down the line but on the other hand the more you post the more chance you’ll help someone or get help if needed.

Of course there’s a few on here that has the sole aim to disrupt, ignore them, don’t feed their ego's.

Well Oldyelow, that seems perfectly reasonable but Duncan seems to be suggesting this on occasions is not the case.

WHY can't or DOESN'T Richard and/or other moderators see who they are? Instead they appear to turn a blind eye to the antics of these individuals and do not appear to act accordingly to rid this site of these people. It always appear to me that the innocent amongst us who use this site in a proper manner, suffer at the expense of these troublemakers, who consistantly set out to spoil it for the rest. Hopefully it's not a case of OLD PALS ACT and moderators and Webmaster treat EVERY situation with an unbiased mind.

Can I just say that moderators didn't join the site to be moderators. There's a lot of very varied very interesting stuff on here, and I'm sure most moderators would rather join in on them, than sit on one or two threads trying to keep them reasonable.

Take it from me that it is soul-destroying being stuck on one of these threads, cleaning it up only to be faced with the same activity again and again and again ......

Comes a time when you get so physically and mentally exhausted doing that that you just can't be rsd. Not blind eye, not old pals act, just blind resignation that some folk just won't take a telling.

i recall one of the scotish threads had certain post on it that caught my eye and should be removed or at best edited but one moderator was on it and was participating and awaited another moderator as if he had removed the posts then it would be a conflict of intrest and was done by another , so this is the normal rule when moderators have an intrest in a thread :)

Fair comment I appreciate at times you are getting hitting your head.

However if you aren't comfortable then don't do the job stick to enjoying posting.

I think this is a great site and the Mods do a great job on here it seemed there for a while that nearly every post was hijacked and turned into a game discussing someones shoe size or I.Q. I think its a lot better now but here is the problem when does the banter turn from entertaining to problematic ? an offhanded comment is one thing but three pages of sillyness is something else ( unless the thread is of a silly nature )

The one thing that really makes me mad on here is when someone is asked a question and then attacked for their answers this has happened on more than one occasion and is very upsetting

I do wish a few on here would be removed as they constantly reassign themselves a new name and then it's bussiness as usual that bussiness being to disrupt the site

And again perfectly correct and reasonable

It definitely is not the case as most on here well know that have seen it happen on a few occasions where a mod deletes, blocks or removes a thread to suit his own views :-/

Moderators do there best to keep arguments from happening and abusive or threating behaviour and insults removed these arent deleted but are stored for Richard to see , you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time , if people followed the rules then most posts wouldnt be removed in the first instance ,  and i think if members would think before they type and be carefull to ensure there cap lock is off  and read before sending then any wording is easily rectified before been posted :)

Oldyellow that's slightly different to a mod being involved in a thread and then deleting the thread/post using the mod's hat?
