Just reading through P C World mag (downloaded).Oct issue .There's a good article on the new threats that computer users may come across which lead me to read about a review on free anti virus deals.Like most I suppose, I have a free Avast Home edition,I thought it was the best for my use and wasn't far away ,it came in 2nd.The one that was top of the list was one that I had not heard about "AVIRA".Nothing lost I downloaded it Free no catches that I could see I'm just waiting for the free licence to arrive .via email. If there are any of you stuck for a freebee it's there for you.

http://www.superantispyware.com/ its a freebie and does pull out things your normal anti virus progs miss.

Thats because an anti-virus program mainly detects virusses and anti-spyware tools search for spyware (hence the names).

On a windows computer you should always have 2 programs to be relatively save: an anti-virus and anti-spyware program. SUPERAntiSpyware is indeed a good program. Another good and free one is Spybot ( http://www.safer-networking.org ) and Ad-Aware (not free).

I was using Windows "Live" but it is now defunked and windows has a replacement called Windows Security Essentials, which I have just installed today. It is free and works on all legitimate Microsoft platforms. Is anyone else using this of heard of it?

Hi Bob , in my initial post I stated that I had the 2nd best free anti virus as/pc world magazine, out of the ones tested windows s. e. was about eigth.Like myself most of the lads that I know in this area use avast, there's a link above if your interested mate.It is a free download with a licence which they email you ,they will notify you when the licence is nearly out of date and issue you with another.
