kraftykev Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Hi all Just had a chat with a mate, we both race pigeons but in a totally different way..He races widowhood and i race natural his birds are all shut up and my birds are let out in the morning, do what they want all day and i shut them up when i come home from work. what are the advantages and disadvantages of racing from an open loft. Im lucky i have no cats about and my birds are very street wise so if a hawk is about they know before it gets to the garden and there are off. Your views pleasecheerskev
blaz Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) i am same as you open bowl advantage birds are fitter more streetwise .also and i think the most important content and happy they have their freedom most of the day.pigeons are in my opinion not meant to be prisoner to loft 20 to 22 hours a day. demolition man Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 For me locked up all day, but i would never knock open lofts because i know many who get there success this way,

Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 would love to have mine on open loft.. but the BOPs are too many.. i would get slaughtered..
Guest mick bowler Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 The only difference is one saves you a lot of money on fuel!
nigel1 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 most people who have topped the combine flag there pigeons and have set times thats what i think if that is possible with work comitments
THE FIFER Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 open loft ok if you don't have cats or B O P around,
Guest peter4pm Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 i useualy let mines out for most of the day , but im changing that as they seem to get a bit wild if left to their own devices plis the sit picking in the gutters and so forth
Guest spin cycle Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 most people who have topped the combine flag there pigeons and have set times thats what i think if that is possible with work comitments flagging is ok but birds can get sick of it,open hole ok but some birds sit about more than others and hawks allways about, road is good but time consuming and expensive. i use a combination of all three in racing season. out of season i vary let out times and, like vallence, am wary of guns.
Ed Bourque Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 I been racing three years now, and teach my young birds to come out the loft every morning when the sun comes up, to create a habit once this is done, they are on open loft all summer until the races start in September. I love it the birds are happier and stronger it works for me I had 5x1'sthis pass young bird season. I am very happy with my results, because I fly a small team of 30 birds.
