Guest KING BILLY Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Which of the BIG breeders would you say is in your opinion the best, and why?I WOULD SAY BUDGIE HES THE BEST FLYER IN LANARKSHIRE AND CAN GET GOOD RESULTS FAY THE NATIONALS TA SO HE GETS MY VOTE ie, Louella, Petron, M & D Evans, to list but a few Thank You
Leroy Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 I've looked at all the websites but have only bought from Louella. The site was so easy to navigate with photos and pedigrees of every bird and regular updates that they made it easy to select and buy from. The newer site made it a bit more difficult but now I'm back on track. I havent tested the young yet but you didnt ask about whether the purchases were worth it!!! Lee
frosty Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 eddie wright from fountain head lofts iv had plenty ov winners through is stock top class
john@formula 1 lofts Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I can not knock M&D Evans birds they have done really well for us.
Guest mick bowler Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Studs , Basically you are paying for the privilege to help them sell more YBs in the future when you report any winners, as most these studs bring in new families and charge you top rate, yet these birds not proved anything!! They tell you how many winners, but never how many duds and IMO thats a more important fact as to a studs breeding success.
Tony C Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I look at studs as an easy option for obtaining pigeons unless they put their money where there mouth is and actually race themselves.
john@formula 1 lofts Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 To a point i agree Mick on the other hand by people reporting there winners should help the stud to make sure tey only keep the best breeders which in turn means, the Customer should get a better quality of y/b's going forward. I do think maybe studs should have to show how many rings they buy each year. I would be more then happy to tell anyone who asked this. As i am pretty sure our % of good birds is higher then most. John

John John, i'm sure you know as well as i do there are those about who have stock that have bred for years without breeding nowt, basically they are pigeon cash cows. even the same can be said about a lot of top lofts, speaking to one guy recently, 48 pairs of stock and wins 15 races a year, and most cocks are multiple winners (not knocking that), but it dont take a mathematican to work it out. I agree about the number of rings and like i said before i would like to see a list of the ring numbers of any birds that have won or had good positions in every advert, almost every normal fancier can do it so why not studs? john@formula 1 lofts Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Mick i do agree a lot of people and studs do keep birds which are sub standard because of what they are bred from or how much they cost etc. This was one of the things which attracted me to M&D Evans was they sorted through there original Gabys and only kept the best. This is also what we do i went through our stock birds a few weeks ago and got rid of the pigeon which was the most expensive pigeon i have ever brought.
gladiator lofts Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 I THINK THE BIG STUDS ARE A GOOD SOURCE FOR BLOOD AND PEDIGREES BUT PEDIGREES DONT WIN RACES GOOD BIRDS DO AND IF YOU HAVE BIRDS BRED DOWN FROM GOOD STOCK AND THEY ARE HEALTHY AND CONTENT IN LOFT THEY WILL PERFORM WELL FOR YOU REMEMBER IF YOU GO BACK FAR ENOUGH IN A BIRDS BREEDING YOU WILL SEE CROSSES HAVE BEEN ADDED I THINK THE FIRST COUPLE OF CROSSES ARE THE BEST OTHERWISE I THINK THE FAMILIES GET TO CLOSE BRED PEOPLE LIKE MASSERELLA BUY THE BEST THEY CAN THEN BREED THEM UNTIL WE CAN AFFORD THEM AND BY US CROSSING THEM WITH OUR OWN PIGEONS WE CREATE OUR OWN FAMILY WHEN I STARTED RACING AFTER TWENTY YEAR GAP I WAS AMAZED AT ALL THE NEW FAMILIES THAT HAD APPEARED AGAIN LOOKING BACK ON THESE PIGEONS PEDIGREES THEY WERE ALL PIGEONS BOUGHT IN AND EVENTUALLY NAMED AFTER THE BREEDER IN ENGLAND FOR SOME STRANGE REASON WE DO NOT DO THIS I BELIEVE IF YOU CROSS DIFFERENT FAMILIES TOGETHER IN UK LIKE OUR FRIENDS ABROAD THEY SHOULD BE NAMED AFTER US
