blackpied Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I am going to build a pigeon loft about 40 feet long as anybody any good plans or ideas,I am using ETS trapping, also it is just for old birds half for short to middle distance other half of loft long distance. Thanks for any advice.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 well loft designs are based on how you wish to fly your birds how wide are you going to have loft ? what system are you going to fly ? do you wish to have a corridor do you want internal doors with one external door many questions but these will determin how you design it
Guest milkyal Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 What i do suggest is you have a corridor, this will benifit you in the long run.
OLDYELLOW Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 depends on how wide your having your loft
blackpied Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 YES I am going to have a corrider, thinking of having about one or two ETS trappings straight into corrider then pigeons will have to trap into own sections.,What width do you think is best with corrider, will be using widowhood/roundabout system with short/middle distance and natural with long distance.
Guest Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 how many sections do you intend having with natural half of loft 20 ft ? i would split into 3 sections 2x6 1x8 easier to control/ catch birds easier for keeping familys together dave
Guest Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 i would have 40x6 without corridor and 40x8 with plus partition doors in corridor dave
tommy d Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 heres a link to a dvd on LOFT BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260311315726&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123
Roland Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Build it a great wire avery first. Then wire compartments. Then an over hanging roof 16 inches higher at the back and down to 9 inches at the front than the Avery. About 18 inches over lapped each side. Slant roof that way so you can always see if anything is on top. The place the inside Wooden floors / grills what have you with the perches, nest boxes etc. So you will have a wire roof below the proper roof whatever water proofing one you choose. Next buy in Air Vents that are attached to the outer ... this made so that they can easiely be replaced with Plastic cladding. Then you will always be able to have an airy, warm / dry loft that allows you to easierly and quickly alter to taste regards the weather. Sliding doors save room and are easier as a rule of the thumb. Yes the whole loft needs to be off the ground for air to flow under.... and wired / airvented to stop any vermin, or mating pigeons from getting underneath. Yes bet your bottom dollar a pair or two will choose to if able or allowed. Good luck.
