pigeonscout Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Successful racing birds come from both deep litter and lofts that are cleaned every day?. I clean every day because I personally like a clean loft not because the birds need one. Most of the fanciers on the continent keep their young birds on deep litter (pea straw) from the day they leave the nest until end of the season and their old bird are cleaned every day. I ask one of theses fanciers why he does not clean his young birds and he told me it gives him more time to play with them and that the young birds love the deep litter. He told me that one year he had two sections for the young birds. One section was clean and the other was deep litter, the door between the two sections was left open and all the young birds stayed in the section with the deep litter. He then went on to say that love of home was important motivation for the racing of young birds. Later in life motivation will be a partner or nest box.
