I believe our sport is certainly in decline, for one thing the kids now a days have no interest, due to the increasing variety of electronic games, phones ect. Plus we also have have ourselves to blame, as all the in fighting and back stabbing that goes on does not encourage fanciers to stay or new ones to join.

We must also consider the current financial state this country is in, and the constant increase in costs within this sport, such as feeding constantly going up.

you spot on brian kids of today if its not electrical or the new in things there not interested plus with the state the country is in with ression its not easy for the likes of new comers to get involved with costs of lofts equipment and raceing fees corn fees bringing in birds is not the problem as there always people willing to help new starters with birds and so on my younger sister had an project it was what you enjoy doing or family member enjoys doing so she said i do it about my birds she come down took pics small videos of my loft birds out exerciseing,me feeding the birds, basically day to day stuff for a few day seeing my birds get basketed up and send training and see them coming back plus she took 3 of my birds up to her school with me to show the kids what is a raceing pigeon and how to hold them and after my sister shown all she had got on video plus info about birds that use to be used in war time and after she had spoken all about her project we all went out into playground and libbed the 3 birds she got top marks for the project plus the kids was all talking about the birds for ages and still are now i went up to pick me sister up from school and all the kids was saying how the birds doing plus parents was saying all my kids keep on talking about is the project your sister done about your birds and how good it is how they manage to home from 100's of miles to make it back to there home i just wish i saved the videos onto my other hardrive as my main computer bust that had it on other wise i would of put it on youtube so everyone could see day to day life for a raceing pigeon and the fancier plus promote the sport more.

all the best.

maybe a good idea to invite the kids down on race day plus the parents and teachers, just to see the birds coming home.

to be totally honest the overall cost of starting up does put lots off we tried new members no fees a few years ago there was no one took us on, i would think that all new members need as much help as we can give them, one idea i like is every time a new member joins a club all members should breed them a pair of ybs that will give them a start

agree costs do put new starters of but there always people willing to breed a round of ybs for new starters to give them a good start off but the hardest thing is keeping them keen and active as lets face it is no stroll in the park trying to get astablished with a team of birds it dont happen over night takes years and to an new comer that has read up about the sport and so on to get all set up sorted out with birds and get knock after nock before they now it they lost interest and think to them selfs is it really worth all the time and effort to be blown out of the window in one bad knock i helped a lad out i bought him aloft my self i bred him ybs he got wipped out so i bred him some more ybs got wipped out again by pob i had to talk him round as at the end what ever i told him he lost interest he got a few stock birds now i gave him from what i brought in past offered to breed him some latebred said let me no but he isnt interested to be far i gutted as the lad is a cracking lad and was keen as owt now he not interested one bit about raceing doos he just enjoys keeping the few stock birds in his loft aviary he comes round mine see my birds the fire gone be it 6 months back he be buzzing saying that cock a stormer and so on now he comes round and im out back with doos he wont even adnolidge there there or owt im all for promoteing the sport but one thing i say to you it wont be easy you got to be able to take it as it comes as its no stroll in the park dont worry about winning anythink at the start just try to get to no the birds you keep get in there head find out what makes them tick keep them healthy well nolidged by training them dont worry when you start to race if your last each week your raceing against flyers that been doing it some 20 so 50 years just enjoy seeing your birds come back if you take anythink from the races you done well BE ABLE TO WALK BEFORE YOU CAN RUN.

Hi everyone hope to start racing young birds next year yes their are expenses to pay to get started and its not cheap,i remember how i started was been introduced to birds and helping with birds and taking them for training tosses and seeing the birds coming home from races. What a great feeling and hope to experience this with my own birds,I hope to introduce yongsters locally to come to my loft and introduce them to the birds and hopefully come and help and experience the sport. In this way they can experience without the costs of setting up and still keep them interested hopefully. After time they may start up themselves heres hoping anyway.hope you don"t mind me joining in just started on forum
