PIGEON_MAN Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 plywood floors with shavings provide no grip for birds when in transitmesh floors might assist but shavings fall threwhessian added to the floor of the crate gives the birds a gripand stops them being tossed from side to side less injuries before lib jmoProblem with shavings is the mess it leaves at liberation points,I can remember only a few years back that the RPRA stopped feds using shavings because of the above, infact the racepoints would not let anybody on the site if you had shavings in the crates,we have been using wire bottons in our crates for years now but I must admit I like to see the birds lay down on a bed of shavings.
Walter swanston Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 The Solway Federation is having all transporter baskets refurbished the floors of the wicker baskets are all to be recovered in a fairly thin but strong slightly corrugated rubber sheet for ease of cleaning etc.
Guest vander mungo Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 dont know this rubber type stuff your talking aboutdoes it breath or could birds be lying in others wet droppingsthink we should get back to the hessian floors it can be sprayed weeklyand changed each year at a low cost pro rata depending on how many crates your club gets
pjc Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 nothing wrong with grids, birds stay clean even with holdover, any food brought up in the baskets falls through to prevent cross contamination etc.
Guest Bonzo Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 we use cardboard in our crates
Tony C Posted September 27, 2010 Report Posted September 27, 2010 The problem of pigeons being tossed around in baskets/crates is compounded when you actually put less pigeons in them, if the basket/crate is designed to carry say 25 pigeons put 25 in.
Guest devonred Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 We use corrugated card board with sand 'works a treat'
virgin of the sky Posted September 28, 2010 Report Posted September 28, 2010 Hard board with shavings treated with detol and open feeders inserted and removed when the pigeons are fed.
