Guest Owen Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 I really hate the idea that my pigeons have to go through funny looking entrance routines. They go in through a standard open window with a landing board on the outside and another on the inside. When I want them in I always scatter a small amount of seed and several peanuts on the inside board. The birds know this and always pause to grab a few seeds before they drop down into the corridor. The ETS pad is inside the interior landing board. There are occasions when the birds drop straight onto the inside board. Obviously, that would be the fastest of fast traps. After they have clocked and drop down into the corridor, there are a set of bob wires fixed at ground level, through which they can enter the loft. I think that, just like ourselves, the birds find is hard to see into the dark interior of the loft after a hard fly in the bright light. That being the case they will naturally stop to recover before going into the darker interior of the loft. That's time lost. The other problem is when a fit cock lands and is adjusting his eyes to the loft before entering, and is followed by another pigeon. The result is that the cock will drive the next pigeon or pigeons and none of them go in. This sort of thing does not happen with the open window and the two landing boards. Any and all the pigeons walk onto the pad and peck at the seed.
