Guest mick bowler Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 Can u fit a fan into them do you think? mcclaff just fit a fan to the inside of the roof, easy if its wooden, but with these you dont really need one as they draw the air out due to the pressure bing greater inside the loft than out.

Thanx mick and where would be the best place to allow the air into the loft in your opinion - under the eaves at the back or at ground level - just thinking about drafts.
Guest stevie-b Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 cheapest ones to make u r self is to go to any good plumbers mechants by a length of soil pipe and mushrooms to fit top easy to install

If you going to ventilate with chimneys you want air in from as close to floor as you can, maybe even in the floor. One thing you want to make sure of is they are closable, especially with our climate!! It may be trial and error but just start with couple of small vents and see how it goes, as there will only be enough air coming in that is replacing the air going out thru the chimneys, any more vents may be a waste or create a draft (where many go wrong) Simple equation is: air in = air out!!
kev43 Posted September 1, 2009 Author Report Posted September 1, 2009 thx black dog i seen them last week on boddy n ridewood they easy 2 fit then and hav u seen a difference in ur loft ?

If i had a corridor with chimneys above it, louvres at each end of it at floor level and closed off the sections where the birds are, (bar the half dowelled corridor sections) do you think this would remove the stale air or do the louvres have to be actually in the space that the birds live in. Hope that makes sense :-/ All advice very much appreciated
NW USA Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 I recommend you ask Old Yellow, last time I spoke about ventilation he informed his is so good that all dust from his birds is sucked out and he never has any on the floor or in his grit........now that is a superior setup.........
Guest Posted September 1, 2009 Report Posted September 1, 2009 i went through this in great depth a few years ago it took me over 2 months to sort and 9 times out of ten you happen on by luck, i empted a sec and worked at it for many months ventilation is part of my trade (plumber) i used 20 tubes of smoke bombs in the end i took off the piece of wood that covered the top vent and reduced the gap at the top of the loft sometime less is more job done !! people think that just putting vents in the bottom and a gap at the top thats it but that does not mean the air will move yes when the wind blows hard in that direction you will feel the draft but if the same amount is comming in the top then thats no good, trial and error
