Guest nikkimass35 Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 hi all. My young birds have been shut in the loft since there last race on saturday. I have managed to get them out today and will maybe try and train later and tomorrow. Do you think they will be ok to race this saturday as they have not been out much this week. Mass
Guest nikkimass35 Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 why have you had them locked up?i just havnt had the time to let them out. Birds seem fine and in good nick
pjc Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 If you havn't had time to excercise them you prob havn't had time to feed and condition them ready for the race either!
Roland Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Will be fine mate. Indeed probably a darn site better for the extra rest. Rest and Freshness is every bit AS good, if not better than training some times. Indeed many times. Just look at the tremedous result Rick Mardis had with just sending, thus only time out of the loft, to the races. Mind he is a top notch and very learned flyer.
Guest Owen Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 You can often overdo the exercise for youngsters and they often do well after a good rest. Just be careful you do not allow their wieght to increase. I do not exercise mine around the loft at all. As soon as I start to train I separate the sexes and stop the around the loft exercise. On Friday I take them to a point about 6 miles away and let the hens go home first and then the cocks. I want the cocks to find the hens there when they get home. By the time I get there they are having a grand time, it is all excitment they really enjoy the contact. Sometimes I do this on a Thursday and then separate them until the next day when they get contact for about 10 minutes before basketing. If the pigeons are any good they will really put an effort in when you do this.

I managed to take them 21 miles this evening and they were home way before me. So couldt of done them much harm.
JohnQuinn Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Had a hen locked in an aviary the whole week then sent it 250mls on the Saturday. She was 2nd pigeon to the loft from23 sent so i reckon you have nothing to worry about that everyone else won't be worrying about too.
