Guest joshdonlan Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 Can some explain how the wind direction affects the birds? Thanks
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 If you are flying South Roada South East wind forces the birds to the west and a South West wind forces the birds to the East (is that what you mean?) South East winds make for a faster race as well change the 'south' for 'north' and its the same - only slower cos its a head wind
Guest IB Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 As a teenager I had some bother understanding wind direction too. I thought then a south west wind blew the birds towards the south west - but the SW direction is where the wind is coming from, so it blows the pigeon in the exact opposite direction - towards the North East. So for birds racing from the south, a Southerly wind is a tailwind. It helps the bird get home faster, giving a race with high velocities. For those racing from the north a southerly wind is a headwind. It hinders the bird getting home, it has to fly against it, so the race will be slower with low velocities.
