Guest SPORTKA Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 A week ago on Saturday I had a stray young bird come in with my trainers, after feeding and watering it, I took the telephone number off its leg ring and tried to call the owner, after several failed attempts over the weekend I took the number to work with me on monday last and eventually got through, the fancier whos only about 30 mls away said he would not be able to collect the bird untill Friday, I was not overly impressed as it means I have had it 6 days by then, but in the interest of the sport I tell him thats ok, give him my details and think thats that, come Friday guess what ? hes a no show, not even a call to let me know why, I must say its really p--sed me off, why o why have these people got birds if they cant be bothered to fetch them back when they make a mistake, 9 days on and the poor things still waiting collection, I shall report to RPRA today which means its with me for a least another week, the really sad part of this is the folks that want their birds back hardly ever get them reported, iv lost 5 myself this year and would be there like a shot to get them back if they were reported. Tis a sad reflection on this sport when this sort of thing happens !
Guest paulrstokes Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I agree chris I reported one last year to an elderly gentleman who gave me the hard luck story that he could not afford to send for it as he was a pensioner and could not afford the £30.00. In his next breath he goes on to tell me that it is the first one he has lost out of his 80 January bred Youngsters, no wonder he can'y afford £30 feeding 80 for six months. Poor old pensioner
Guest youngzimmy Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 TALKING ABOUT STRAYS I HAVE ONE HERE SU 10 M 3264 ANYONE GOT ANY IDEA WHO OWNS IT
kev01293 Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 i agree this year ive driven to ipswich and southampton to pick up my birds that have gone awol and would have been glad to collect or send for any other ones that got reported we all know it aint cheap getting our birds back home but they are our birds so our responsibility the least fanciers can do is be polite when we report one of theirs but it now seems to be out of sight out of mind for some fanciers
Guest homestead Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 I agree wiyh you Kev, Its your bird your responsability. I bought 50 tel number rings at Blackpool and only had 4 birds reported out of 15 I lost. 1 bird came back after 2 weeks minus the ring. At 30 to 35 pounds for a courier it sounds expensive but I drove to the Wirral to collect a bird after 2 hours of my time and fuel £30 pounds is about right. I have spoken to some flyers who wont stamp or ID there birds until they are racing in case they get reported. I think fanciers who wont or dont want to take responsibility should be reported to there association.
pjc Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 There are members on here who can't be bothered to claim there birds from non fanciers!

Guest youngboy Posted July 22, 2010 Report Posted July 22, 2010 fanciers should just say if they dont want bird either dipose of it or keep it if it stays JMO instead of sayin ill collect it whenever and then not returning a call wouldmake life hell of alot easier.but what the most ignorent thing ever is when fanciers dont say thanks for even minding there bird. i caught in a stray this year from the uk and the fancier was genuine and sed he will sort out a lift and got one and never rang back to say thanks for minding the bird.and mind you the person who collected this bird told me that bird flew france twice for the fancier so if it did he should be delihted he got it back.
