Guest cosmic dave Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I have bought 4 9 x 6 louvre vents to put in the loft today, do i put them all at the bottom of the loft or 2 at the bottom front and 2 at the top rear ? If the latter wouldn't that make the loft very draughty ? (think that's spelt right) :-/ :-/ :-/ David
north wales novice- Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 its a hard one to answer without knowing more Dave . any loft pictures?? andy.
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Your loooking for about a 4 inch Gap at the back wall and the roof. Then put your vents along the front of your loft. Fresh Air is free use it as much as you can.
pjc Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 The air needs to change constantly within the loft, with as little draft as possible. Hot, stale air will rise so if you fresh air coming in at the front, ground level then you need somewhere for it to expel. Depending on the design of your loft, if your roof timbers run from front to back and sit on the back section there should be a 2" air gap all the way which is ample.

Roland Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 I have a false roof that over laps alround with a double wiremesh to stop any vermin / sparrows etc. from getting in. Most of the lower roof is also double wired meshed. I have interchange plastic cladding / or air vents at front only. This enables when needs be to regulate air flow / tempreture. Fresh air in at bottome, hits back and them is dragged out up through the roof. -(Chimney's are great also I believe) So the air is constantley circulating and and changed of course.
