Guest cosmic dave Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I have had another 6 YBs delivered the other day I kept them separate for a while but when I let them mingle with the other older YBs all went well except for one big grey cock which went berserkattacking the new birds throwing them around and being very aggressive (as he is with me). How can I stop this ? I dont want to have to keep the new birds separate for months, do I keep the bully separate till he learns ?
OLDYELLOW Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 put the bully in a basket for a few days then try him back in then other ybs will get used to there new home
Guest cosmic dave Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Should I keep putting him back in the basket for a day every time he has a go at one ?
OLDYELLOW Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 once hes had a few days not just a day in a basket , he should sulk a bit and other younger birds will grow in confidence
jimmy white Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 i would agree with o,y,,, but would make use of this "in the basket", by putting a drinker on the basket,, learning it to drink in the basket,, this would come in useful when basket training the others when their older,, it often takes just one to drink in the basket, for the others to follow,,
mealybug Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I always put new youngsters in the loft at night when it's dark so that the others are perching and don't bother with them. Usually in the morning it's feeding time anyway so they're not bothered about the newcomers.
shaun h Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 i had the same problem it sorted it self out after a day or so when the new ybs got bit more confident. i just left them to sort it out themselves .(but kept a eye on them )
David048 Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I agree that you should separate him from time to time to protect the new ones but he sounds like he has some spirit and fire in belly which isn't a bad thing. You may not necessarily want to knock that out of him.
