schouwman71 Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 What does the most winning in widowhood cocks or wich you you prefer, the small to medium widowhood cock or the larger type of widowhood cock.wich are better.
T_T Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 I think if you look at the human race as a comparison to pigeons, your Alan Wells, Lindford Christie both somewhat muscular for the sprint racing and then at Seb Coe, David Bedford and these African runners for distance racing. Look at Paula Radcliffe, Iv'e never seen a short stocky athelete win a distance race. On the whole I tend to view pigeons in that manner but of course I know there can be the odd exception.
Guest Posted February 2, 2006 Report Posted February 2, 2006 We tend to breed our pigeons small for the disstance and the turkeys for the sprints

Diamond dave Posted February 3, 2006 Report Posted February 3, 2006 Hyacinth What sort of temperatures do you race in? I had a friend who was visited by an Aussie fancier and he thought that even the smallest of our breeds were on the large side. Said they needed to be smaller to cope with the temperature? Any Aussies looking in?

Guest coxy Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 the sprint birds are of quite a big size where as the distance birds are small
mealybar Posted February 4, 2006 Report Posted February 4, 2006 I dont think you can compare pigeons distances to human altheletes. Lets say 700 miles race is the equivalent to the marathon (26miles for ease). Then if we compare 150 miles race (a sprint) the equvalent human race would be approx 5.6 miles, or 9km. The same human atheletes race the marathon, and the 10,000 metres (10km).
