westy Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 ARE YOU SENDING YOUR YOUNG BIRDS ON THERE FIRST RACE?
westburylofts Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Not sure what you mean, so cannot say one way or the other. If you mean do we send our yb's to the first yb race then the answer to that would be YES. RAY
Guest Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 often i don't send yb's on there first race because if they don't get enough exercise, but often we send yb's on there 2nd or 3rd race to the last race.............. In the future i may send the yb's on there first race to last race..........
Guest speckled Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 What with having darkness youngsters, :-/ mine always go to the first race, usally the first is only a short race, no further than 112 miles ,so i think i would rather send to a short race, than throw them in at the deep end. 3 races into the season. So first race it is for me.Speckled. ;D
MsPigeon Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Yes, I do happen to send mine to the first race. But I know some who don't and if I were in their position I wouldn't either. That is when you are on the short end and the race is to short for your hot to race YB's. They will just shoot right over with the main flock headed another 50+miles north! And it just may be the last you see of them or they will be flying a 200 mile race instead of 100. Mspigeon
jimmy white Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 i uesd to send to the first yb race, but found there were many untrained birds and birds not in tip top condition, and ybs far to young, i think the first big liberation can be abit of a mix up, after this lib, they seem to settle a bit, only my opinion
Guest Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 We're lucky having a training truck that goes out 4 days a week, members birds are put up together at least 2 weeks before the first race, so I've no worries sending from first to last
carl Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I will send half my youngbirds to the first race but i will make sure they are up for the job ahead before they go.The season before last some of the members of my club were telling me not to send to the first race,i did send and won my first ever youngbird race i entered and i won the 2nd race ,and the 3rd race i was 2nd & 3rd,so it didnt do them that much harm finishing 2nd youngbird average my first ever season in a very strong club.
AlanWilkins Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 Always Always send to the first young bird race u can bet as much as you like the first week the birds sent are ready and trained up the second and third you get birds thrown in as the races are getting longer. So i think the first race is the safe option
carl Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 I agree with alan,if people dont send to the first race that means all the unexperienced birds are going to the 2nd or 3rd race.Racing pigeons are there to race not to sit and look at in the loft,if you are unsure about sending to the first race just send a few to be sure.

Guest Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 We're lucky having a training truck that goes out 4 days a week, members birds are put up together at least 2 weeks before the first race, so I've no worries sending from first to last how far is your training miles?
Guest speckled Posted January 8, 2006 Report Posted January 8, 2006 same here hyacinth, we have a training wagon,we put are birds on, the driver starts off, at 20 miles then workes his, way up to 65 miles.he goes every day, & the birds get home at a resonable time 11.30 am. so the first race in the transporter, is no diffrent, from what thay have been used to as thay go training with about 600 birds, from diffrent location.Speckled.
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 I send ALL my birds to first race I usally have my birds 100 miles 2 weeks before first race and will train with others in area if possible I am training old birds and have them out to about 50 miles already I will continue loft flying and training 1 or 2 times a week we dont start OBs till april I have talked with others in club and they are still worrying about hawks I have lost 2 in 3 weeks but I have also got 2 of them as well
maverick Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 AS OUR FED START BEFORE THE OTHERS IN OUR AREA IT IS A GOOD CHANCE FOR OUR YOUNG BIRDS TO GET A GOOD RACE UNDER THERE BELT WITH THE SKY TO THERSELF SO ALL THAT CAN GO WILL BE SENT
Guest Posted January 9, 2006 Report Posted January 9, 2006 YES ALAN SOUTH ROAD does Birmingham race north road ?
darin Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 yes all the young birds will be sent to every race ........! thats what its all about in it good for experiance as yearlings...young birds what carnt do the full program arnt welcome in the loft simple as that no room for passengers...
AlanWilkins Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 no there aint a north rd fed down brum but we do have 7 or 8 south rd ones
Guest Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 YOUNG BIRDS Should be racing this year, if not so the yb's won't have any experience in their life as a yearlings.
Tony C Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 I always plan to send my y/b's to the first race and more times than not do. However if the temperature hits the 30C mark they stay at home, the same goes for a strong tail wind (north in my case).
