Guest Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 From what I have been reading over the past few weeks. there is a consensus of opinion that Unions should employ some sort of Press Officer/ sports Promotion/Public Relations person. It's a hard cold fact that these sort of things cost money, how to members feel about Union Dues to your Organisation RPRA SHU WHU IHU NWHU AND NEHU, being increased by say a couple of quid a year to employ a professional person to deal with the media on your behalf.
mealybar Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 I think it should be a post fullfilled by all of the unions as one. Through the confederation maybe? I dont think many would notice a couple of quid added to fees.
square_peg Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 FOR ONCE IT DOES MAKE SENSE TO HAVE A COLLECTIVE VOICE SPOT ON MEALYBAR
THE FIFER Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 THIS IS WHAT'S NEEDED NOW-ADAYS, SOMEONE TO STAND UP FOR THE SPORT WITH GOOD BACKING, SINGLE UNIONS AND FANCIERS ARE NOT HEARD, LET THEM KNOW OUT THERE JUST HOW BIG THE PIGEON SPORT IS IN THE UK OR EVEN EUROPE, AND MORE PIGEONS AT SCHOOLS AND LIBERATIONS THROUGHOUT, TO LET THE PUBLIC SEE JUST WHAT GOOD THERE IS IN PIGEON KEEPING, AND ALL THE MONEY AND GOOD WILL WHICH GO OUT TO CHARITIES ETC. THATS IT I'M OFF MY SOAP BOX,
ribble Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 moan moan moan is all you'd hear.lets face it compared to say golf and what they pay in green fees pigeon racing is to cheap.5p on birdage would have a lot not sleeping....
THE FIFER Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 if they don't get pigeons back in the limelight they will have plenty time to sleep very soon.
jimmy white Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 i agree entirely with these posts problem is , some moan when you put a couple of p on the birdage
Guest Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 our birdage is 25p per bird i proposed to put it to 30p i should have been linched acording to some of the members!!!!
GREENGRASS Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 It is a crazy sport when you think it costs less than a first class stamp to send a bird to a race point. Fanciers will pay crazy money for birds but wont pay an extra couple of pence for birdage fees to get them safely to the races. the idea of a press offier/ sport promotion/ or PR person is a good idea. the sport needs every help it can get, but tv is where the audience is and that is where we should explore. look at how the greyhound racing has flourished after sky started getting involved, and the two sports are very alike in the aspect of owning, training, breeding etc. The advantage is that they can have the gambling side but how can we. Hyacinth had a post on the site earlier where established members would sponsor a new start and give help with getting started and breed some youngsters etc, this could work here too as long as we can capture an audience and prove how rewarding our sport is.
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Greengrass, If the Unions combine and emply a suitable qualified Publicty person it would be expected that the person would have experience of dealing with the Media and would be able to obtain some sort of TV coverage for the sport.
pigeonpete Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 gez 25p!!!!! wow lol ours have just gone up from 50p to 70p and i still think theres not many sports/hobbys you can do as cheaply! (aftrer initial start up costs) . theres just over 37,000 r.p.r.a members even if the fees jus went up just £2 thats a good wage for 2/3 full time p.r officers or something similiar?? please dont anyone take this the wrong way but im only 30 and want to carry on pigeon racing for the rest of my life, and im sure there are younger people aswell who think like me but if something is not done in the next couple of years then................ :X 1 loft racing at best then i think!! but thats another debate lol thanks for reading all the best pete
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 yeah pete 25p!!! thats not for national races but fed races i still think its cheap! im only 22 and want to be racing for a few more years yet also!! our fed subs are £100 and for that you get 10 free birds per inland race(16 of them i think) so the subs are infact £60 which is a lot comapred to some feds, but they wouldnt need to be that if they sorted the birdage prices out. the sec of a fed should know near enough exactly how much it costs to go to each race point. if you know what i mean. anyway im getting off the topic here sorry! like you said 37,000 members £2 a member (and i think 37,000 is just rpra members) pay 2 people £20,000 a year then they have £17,000 each to work with. surley with this money they could achive good things?
