Guest Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 if u had to start all over again keeping your beloved doos how would u do it were would u go how many would u keep ect jonjon
peterpau Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 12 pairs would suit me I keep 18 pairs and it's too many. How much time and money is the real Question. People will offer you young. I could give you some. I would recomend Masserella or Natural breeding station. Biggest thing, TRY to get em all the same age and from the same place.
T_T Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 I wouldn't keep too many pigeons just get 5/6 pairs for stock. Two very important things I would consider, would be my finances and the feelings of my neighbours. The neighbours could make my life a misery before I got off the ground and it could be a lot of money wasted. Knowing this forum as I do, there are some excellent experienced fanciers on here who wouldn't do anyone a wrong. I would decide on the breed of pigeons I wanted sprint/distance or both and then make enquiries through here. Other than that, I would go to Massarella, a man who has bought expensive pigeons into the pocket of the working man. UP THE HAMMERS!!!!
rockinrick Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 i would stick with eight pairs for stock as i know i would get a good team from them , as to breed well they would have to be jan arden or van hee as i like sprint and distance races
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 hi if you are starting up or an established fancier the motto is just the same QUALITY NOT QUANTITY obviouslly that is easier said than done when starting up go for the time tested formula of going to a top fancier not to far away from your own area and ask to buy some latebreds off him or her they normally will sell them you for a fraction of the price you could pay at a big stud also they will generally be off either thier best breeders or racers most top fanciers are proud of their birds and will want them to do well for you
