jimmy white Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 i had a widowhood cock, one of the quietest in the loft, after never seeing his hen for about3 weeks, i put 2, 3 day old ybs under it, it took to them like a duck taking to water,,,,ive never seen a bird change so much in all my life, it would have taken the hand off you, and the bird dualy obliged from 550 miles
Guest Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 this is a good sign in a pigeon especially a widowhood cock. www.bedwdiy.co.uk
Mike Lycett Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Ray Our Vandenabeeles wouldn't win in a Show pen but they have some real fire in their bellies ;D
Guest Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 You wanna try our Staf Van Reets, all have 666 tattooed on their heads. In fact we paired a daughter of Champion Leyton Express up with a Son from our top Patriot Cock Maxwell as an experiment, she killed him.!!!!!!!!!!!! all our Van Reets, cocks and hens will try to carve a second butt hole in your hand if you go near their babies. Always have the Navy Seals standing by at ringing time
Guest Silverwings Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Linda .did that killer hen produce the goods ? my voets hens are very aggressive ,but the cocks very placid and tame ,thanks fot that new expression " BUT HOLE " will try it out on the gaffer tomorrow Mike , you mention fire in their bellies ? this one will end up in some bellies the way he is going ! more like a bloody Volcano in the box ,looks like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth ? when he is rattled he looks twice as big as the others ? Gaby Vandenab****rd thats his new name ?
Guest Silverwings Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Jimmy ,did that aggression pass down to any of his sons or dtrs ? Gez , I hope you aint been sellin any ov them Dragons to Vandenabeele ?....ray
peterpau Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Note wrong in a bird getting a lot protective. Sounds like the recipe for a win to me Silverwings. Nice one............
paul k Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Our best racing cock would eat your hand if he could, if you went near his bowl, and he won 13x1st prizes. aggression a great thing to have in a widowhood cock.
jimmy white Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 sorry for being so late in answering, silverwings but it did pass down through its progeny, but noticed some were more" vicious" than others, but all seems very calm at other times , but changed when they had or were given ybs.iit also seemed the" vicious" ones were the better ones.
Guest Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 silverwings, Yed the hen has produced us some excellent pigeons, so has her nest mate brother. Her Brother F8 Crusader has to be left paired up all year, he is the most gentle creature with his hens and is an excellent dad and attacks yours truly when I go in his breeding pen if he has eggs or babies. He has inherited all his characteristics from his Dad Leyton Express. When Frank imported Leyton he was a holy terror in the loft, he would try to take and defend about 24 nest noxes and would not let the other birds in from the aviary at feeding time. F8 is just the same, we dare not put him in the Cock loft when breeding is done for the year as he spends all day beating the crap out of the other birds. He's quite content with wooden eggs in his breeding pen. When Frank was sending him to us at about 30 days, he had him in a crate with some other squeakers for mailing out and when he went to the crate, F8 had the other babies cowered in a corner. When we received him we put him in with the spare hens for a week to steele in. We moved him to the cock loft and went down a couple of hours later to see how he was. That bird still had fuzz on his head and was a bloody mess, but he had a top nest box and wouldn't give it up, he was fighting off 5 and 6 year old cocks. I have often wondered what would happen if I put him and Leyton in the same breeding pen, but being as these are our best Van Reets I don't think I would ever take the chance.
Guest Silverwings Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 interesting to see this temprement pased down to their youngsters ? wonder if youngsters from these aggressive cocks would still retain the same temprement if their eggs were fostered and reared by quieter pigeons ? anyone had experience with this ......ray
Guest Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 Yep Ray, we foster most of the eggs out from the breeders. and so does our friend Frank.
Guest Silverwings Posted March 14, 2006 Report Posted March 14, 2006 thanks linda , i dont want this young pigeon pulling too many youngsters off in his first year, as fostering them makes no diference ,it will give me chance test a few out of him, it seems he might add a bit of dynamite to the loft ....ray
swilcox Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Silverwings Is he from ruitenberg? if he is whats the last two numbers of the parents??? Regards Stuart
Guest cloudview Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 sounds like this cock would make a good natural candidate could also tire himself out in race basket though not to mention all other birds as well
Guest Silverwings Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Wish i could tire him out cloudview , this pigeon is not afraid of anything ( not wild at all ) infact very freindly around the loft but fights to the death in his box ? had a protien cyst under his wing when i got him ,removed that and gave him a lighter diet ,the pigeon then came to life ? he has so much natural energy and vitality , very cheeky and inquisitive built his nest too high for his box ,tried to take my laces out for nesting material ? another thing i noticed he does not roost away from the box at night stands on the edge of the bowl ? he is pulling two youngsters well and maintaining his body weight .... this sort of pigeon would not take a lot to bring to the boil for a saturday ,will look round for a hen the same way bred later in the year ......ray
