T_T Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 When ringing youngsters, do we put the rings on so that they can be read easily on basket night ( upside down ) or do we ring them so that they read the right way when the pigeon is standing up. The feeling in our club is that they should be rung on the RIGHT leg as well. ?
pigeonjock Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 RIGHT LEG UPSIDE DOWN TO HELP RINGERS AS MOST OF THEM ARE AGED AND HAVE POOR EYESIGHT.
peterpau Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 upside down doesn't matter which leg. I use left leg
Chatrace Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Upside down, depends on if you are right or left handed which leg, I used to do the right when we counter marked now I do the left so the E Chip can go on the right for basket night
westy Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 upside down i was told to make basketing easy i use left leg.
mealybar Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 Upside down on the birds right leg. Makes it less easy for me, being a lefty, but noticed the bad handling when basketing of 'wrong leg' birds, rather they had the best possible start for a race weekend
THE FIFER Posted March 15, 2006 Report Posted March 15, 2006 UPSIDE DOWN ON RIGHT LEG, IF ALL BIRDS ARE RUNG THE SAME(LEG) ITS A LOT EASIER GOING FOR THE RIGHT LEG WHEN MARKING, ALSO IF THE RING IS UPSIDE DOWN EASY TO READ, I DOO NOT SEE WHAT DIFFERENCE IT MAKES RIGHT HANDED OR LEFT U CAN STILL HOLD THE BIRD IN UR RIGHT HAND, AND USE UR LEFT TO GET ITS LEG, I AM RIGHT HANDED BUT CAN STILL HOLD A BIRD IN ANY HAND,
Blue Chequer Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Always on the right leg upside down, easy to read for yourself and the handlers when ringing, also easier to put the left leg in the ringer with your right hand. Some members in my club if they are rung on the left leg will put the rubber on the same leg, this can be awkward when it comes to getting the rubber off to time in.
zetlandlad999 Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Upside down Right Leg, easy for everyone.
MsPigeon Posted March 17, 2006 Report Posted March 17, 2006 right leg, upside down But there is that occasional goof up and it is rightside up. :-/ Or sometimes I have missed one or it dropped it's band and I had to try to band it too big. > In some cases I made the right foot swell and gave up and went to the left. :'( I have not done that this year though, not yet anyway! ;D
hooky Posted March 18, 2006 Report Posted March 18, 2006 on any leg any way for me as long as it is on there.and i don't care who likes or dislikes it.i got no reason to have it a certain way as i know 90% of my birds ring numbers just by looking at the bird..only time it may casue trouble is as you say basketing night but if those who are carrying the birds cannot read a ring upside down maybe it is time for them to sit back and take it easy
rockinrick Posted March 20, 2006 Report Posted March 20, 2006 any finger either hand as long as you ask nicely lol ,, right leg upside down cheers rockinrick
MsPigeon Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 Same process. BUT! a much more delicate job! :
