Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 So Sorry Carol, how did it get in. It's amazing, we haven't seen a Cooper round here for Months. We had trouble here about 10 days ago with a pair of Northern Harriers, way off their usual beat. We normally class it safe to fly our birds after about April 1st as that is round the time thr ground prey come back onto the scene. This is something I can't really understand, it's been the coldest Winter for many years in Central Oregon, yet the ground prey, rock chucks etc have been seen in our yard for about 8 weeks now and the quail surfaced a couple of weeks ago. What did you do with the Hawk ????????????
westy Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 sorry to here it it looks as if it is saying "i was not me" LOL

MsPigeon Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Well, actually it is still in a cage on the porch. It went in through the bobs on my white bird loft. The two just banded squabs were it's only dining delight. I was considering re-locating it but was told it would most likely return. So then I was considering a large aviary for it, but I have a friend who already has an aviary for just such a victum but his victum died and he is happy to get a replacement. He'll be picking it up on Sunday.
MsPigeon Posted March 25, 2006 Author Report Posted March 25, 2006 Well... poor fella ??), must have died of fright or something, found it dead in the cage this morning. :'( ;D
westy Posted March 25, 2006 Report Posted March 25, 2006 at least it is not going back out in the wild.
rockinrick Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 ahh poor little birdie hope its mate doesnt die of loneliness cos that would be so sad
MsPigeon Posted March 27, 2006 Author Report Posted March 27, 2006 Well rick it hasn't yet! I saw it take a dive at my birds just a couple days ago. Not sure if it is it's mate or nest mate. I was told it was a young gosh hawk, probably kicked out of it's parents hunting grounds and so hungary it got bold enough to go in the loft.
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Report Posted March 27, 2006 Sooooooooooooo Sorry to hear the poor little chappie died of lonliness. We're having problems to, not with the birds but with the fish, got a dammed Osprey yesterday afternoon who took a lovely fish out of the pond. Spent all morning netting up the top of the pond, then we can catch him if he dives in the netting and put him in a box on our backdoorstep
Guest Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Linda. sorry about your fish....and are your koi fishes comes from Japan? Very expensive....
Guest Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Most of them have been bought from a Company in California who import their stock from Japan
westy Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 SORRY TO HERE ABOUT THE FISH. I WAS INTO FISH BEFORE I KEPT PIGEONS NOW MY MOM HAS TAKEN OVER FROM THEM.
Guest Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 Thanks Westy, We've had to cover the top of the pond with netting, looks a mess, but I'd rather have that than loose another fish. what sort of fish did you keep, I have a small fish tank in my Office with some fancy Goldfish, one is a Red Capped Oranda, one is a Calico and I'm not sure what the other is, he's black with big bobble eyes and my budgie Garbage Guts hates them he spends all day sat on his swing cussing at them, Cheers
T_T Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 Never have I known it around here for a hawk to take a pigeon. My friend came from work and let his birds out and after cleaning them out, he came outside the loft and saw a hawk sat on the back of a good four year old cock ripping into it. This was just four feet from his loft and never having seen this before, left him quite shaken and upset.
