THE FIFER Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 FANCIERS MUST ADHERE TO THOSE INSTRUCTIONS OR WE WILL NOT GET DOING ANYTHING WITH OUR BIRDS, SO COME ON LADS THINGS ARE LOOKING BETTER DON'T SPOIL IT, U ALL WOULD GET UR LETTERS FROM SHU TODAY, READ THEM AND OBAY THEM.FOR THE SAKE OF PIGEON FANCIERS.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 11, 2006 Report Posted April 11, 2006 WELL SAID FIFER ALL MUST STICK TO RULESOR IT WILL ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE FOR EVERYBODY BECAUSE DEFRA WOULD NOT HESITATE TO SHUT UP SHOP AS THEY ONLY NEED THE SLIGHTEST REASON AND THAT WOULD BE IT.
Guest Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Resource/Doc/972/0025828. PIGEONS still being let out in fife WHY DEFRA SAYS KEEP THEM IN
Guest Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 FROM THE RPRA Amtrak have forwarded the following message with regard to AI and their service: “Tests have confirmed that the H5N1avian flu virus was present in the swan found dead in Fife, Scotland. Based on the preliminary veterinary risk assessment a Wild Bird Risk Area has been established beyond the Protection and Surveillance Zones already in place. This requires keepers to house birds within the area which is approximately 2,500 square km in size. The AMTRAK KY1 location falls within this zone. As a result NO Homing Express COLLECTIONS will be made FROM the KY1 area until further notice. Similarly, NO Homing Express DELIVERIES will be made INTO the area. Other than this depot, every other depot in the network should be carrying on as normal.”
THE FIFER Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 WE ARE SO CLOSE TO GETTING BACK TO LETTING BIRDS OUT AND RACING, PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL THIS, IT'S UP TO CLUB OFFICIALS TO MAKE SURE MEMBERS ADHEAR TO THE RULES, IF THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON THEY SHOULD FIND OUT FROM THEIR FEDS, IF THE FEDS DO NOT KNOW WHATS GOING ON THEY SHOULD FIND OUT FROM THEIR GOVERNING BODIES, BUT LET'S FACE IT IT HAS BEEN IN TV IT HAS BEEN INTHE PAPERS IT HAS BEEN ON THE NET, AND ITS IN TODAYS PAPERS TELLING U THINGS ARE GETTING BETTER, BUT, THE RESTRICTIONS ARE STILL IN FORCE, WE ARE ALWAYS ON ABOUT THE BAD PUBLICITY WE GET WITH OUR BIRDS, FANCIERS NOT DOING WHAT THE POWERS THAT BE TELL THEM IS ONLY GOING TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, THINGS ARE LOOKING GOOD DON'T SPOIL IT.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 A REPLY FOR SCHOUWMAN 71 THE SWAN FOUND WAS A WHOOPER SWAN AND DNA TESTS ON THE SWAN CONCLUDED IT HAD A VERY CLOSE MATCH TO THE SWANS IN GERMANY SO IT COULD BE IT DID ORIGINATE FROM THERE AND THERE COULD BE STACKS OF REASONS HOW IT ENDED UP IN FIFE BUT WE WILL NEVER KNOW FOR SURE.
jimmy white Posted April 12, 2006 Author Report Posted April 12, 2006 so many differant stories about" this swan" i still think theres someting odd about the lot
Guest Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Thought that it would be useful to remind members and guests that this isn't a voluntary code that we are dealing with in the three AI Zones, it is a legal requirement. Also useful to remind 'innocents' that in law they are exactly that and cannot be punished because others are breaking the law. A further reminder that there are penalties:- Powers of inspectors in case of default 19.-(1) Where a person fails to comply with a requirement imposed by or under this Order an inspector may take any steps that they consider necessary to ensure the requirement is met. (2) In taking steps under paragraph (1) an inspector may seize and detain any bird moved, kept or otherwise dealt with in contravention of a restriction or requirement imposed by or under this Order. (3) The person in default shall reimburse any reasonable expenses incurred by the Scottish Ministers or the local authority in taking such steps and any such debt is recoverable summarily. Breach of the Order is an offence under section 73 of the Animal Health Act 1981, punishable in accordance with section 75 of that Act. I think its a £5000 fine over and above having your birds taken off you and paying for their care - assuming they aren't destroyed of course.
fifestay Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 The Swan was migratory ...I think washed up ...maybe became ill after starting on its journey came from scands country... which is a whole lot better than
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I E-MAILED THE RPRA AND ASKED WHY RPRA MEMBERS IN FIFE CAN STILL LET THEIR BIRDS OUT THIS WAS THE ANSWER. I don't know! You have to follow DEFRA/Scottish Office instructions. Regards Peter Bryant General Manager The Royal Pigeon Racing Association The Reddings near Cheltenham, Glos GL51 6RN
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 CLOCKMAN---THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE WOULD CLEAR THIS UP FOR YOU ONCE AND ALL AS IT IS THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE THAT IS GRANTING THE LICENSES FOR RACING IN SCOTLAND AND IF YOU CHECK THEIR WEBSITE YOU WILL GET THE LINKS TO WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT BIRDS IN SCOTLAND. I DID NOT THINK THAT WAS A VERY HELPFUL REPLY FROM P. BRYANT.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 TAMMY I KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MY BIRDS ITS THE RPRA MEMBERS IN FIFE THAT DON'T.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 right iget what u mean now, all the shu members have had a letter the rpra members in scotland havent. this should have been sorted on day one what a shambles
Henrik Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Dear Robert Thank you for your e mail. ALL fanciers in Scotland should be following the instructions set out by the Scottish Executive. In fact neither the SHU or the ROPRA should HAVE to tell fanciers what to do. It is a legal directive! However, I have today written to all RPRA clubs in the area to reinforce the Scottish Executive’s instructions. regards Peter Bryant General Manager The Royal Pigeon Racing Association The Reddings near Cheltenham, Glos GL51 6RN tel 01452 713529 fax 857119
celtic Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Gezza I,m in the SHU and i have'nt had any letter, i,ve had no correspondence at all .
Henrik Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Celtic does,nt affect you at the moment your on the wrong side of the water but your club Sec has had a letter.
THE FIFER Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 THERE NOW U ALL HAVE IT U MUST GO BY THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE NOT UR UNIONS OR OFFICIALS OR ANYTHING ELSE, ITS THE LAW,
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 CLOCKMAN MY POST THIS MORNING WASN'TMEANT DIRECTLY FOR YOU IT WAS INTENDED FOR THOSE WHO SAID THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO DO AS THEY SEEMED TO BE CONFUSED BY GETTING TOLD DIFFERENT THINGS BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND THEY END UP DOING NOTHING, EVERYBODY WHO PUTS A POST ON HERE HAS A COMPUTER SO ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS CHECK. LAST SEPTEMBER WHEN ALL THIS BIRD FLU WAS COMING UP I SPOKE TO ONE OF MY UNCLES IN NEWCASTLE WHO WAS ASSOCIATED WITH SOMEONE WHO WORKED IN DEFRA AND WE SPOKE ABOUT WHAT DEFRA WOULD DO IFAN OUTBREAK HAPPENED HERE AND IT WAS SHE WHO TOLD ME WAY BACK THEN THAT IT WAS [ WHAT I POSTED EARLIER ]THE SCOTTISH EXEC. WHO WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR SCOTTISH PIGEONS. I HOPE YOU WERE NOT OFFENDED BECAUSE THE POSTS YOU AND FIFER HAVE HAVE BEEN PUTTING WERE VERY CLEAR AND TO THE POINT BUT SOME FANCIERS WOULD NOT BELIEVE ANYBODY UNTILL SOMEBODY ARRIVED AT THEIR DOOR SAYING THEY WERE TAKING THEIR BIRDS OFF THEM AND THEN THEY WOULD ASK WHAT FOR.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 THERE NOW U ALL HAVE IT U MUST GO BY THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE NOT UR UNIONS OR OFFICIALS OR ANYTHING ELSE, ITS THE LAW, I take your point about following Scottish Executive directives, Fifer, but there's major gaps opening up in the information chain ... the way information comes 'down' from them to us fanciers. (1) The Scottish Executive letter you posted advises the SHU to visit the Executive website for instructions & restrictions in the zones. The SHU office isn't on-line. Telephone, fax, computer ... all yes, but (still) no link to the Web. (2) The Scottish Executive also appears to think there is only one pigeon body in Scotland as I haven't heard of a corresponding letter going out to The Reddings. Has the RPRA advised the Executive that it has an interest in Scotland? Not nationalistic or political, just a view of the way things are: this is just the sort of distant representation we Scots complained about with Westminster where it was our perception that our needs & concerns were largely ignored. We now have Holyrood. Pity some pigeon people have thrown away a direct say in their affairs to an organisation that doesn't apparently even have a grip of where its members are in Scotland ... in this case, right in the eye of the AI storm ... and hasn't offered a shred of support to them during the current incident.
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 BRUNO I LIKE THE POINT YOU MADE ABOUT THE SHU HAVING NO WEBSITE, I BROUGHT THIS POINT TO ONE OF THE FEDERATION REPS FOR LANARKSHIRE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HE THOUGHT THEY HAD ONE. I ALSO ASKED HIM FOR THE E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR THE SHU AND HE SAID THEY DIDNT GIVE IT OUT ,JUST TO CERTAIN MEMBERS.THEY ARE LIKE THE SECRET SERVICE. DO YOU KNOW ANYBODY THAT HAS HAD AN E-MAIL FROM THE SHU ?I HAVE BEEN OUR CLUB SECRETARY FOR THE LAST 4 YRS AND I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE FROM THEM AND YET THEY ASK ME TO INCLUDE ANY MEMBERS E-MAIL ADDRESSES. WHAT FOR ? ANYBODY WHO HAS THEIR E- MAIL ADDRESS CARE TO PUT IT UP.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 JUST AS A MATTER OF INTEREST DO THE SHU GO TO THE DEFRA MEETINGS SAME AS THE RPRA DO It appears that they don't, Rose, or its Scottish equivalent, MAFF, and this is why I posted the thread 'Where's OUR voice?" on this board.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 BRUNO I LIKE THE POINT YOU MADE ABOUT THE SHU HAVING NO WEBSITE, I BROUGHT THIS POINT TO ONE OF THE FEDERATION REPS FOR LANARKSHIRE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HE THOUGHT THEY HAD ONE. WHAT FOR ? ANYBODY WHO HAS THEIR E- MAIL ADDRESS CARE TO PUT IT UP. First contacted the SHU about AI in September 2005. Pointed out that I was receiving email replies from Gordon Chalmers in Canada same day, then having to print and post the correspondance which was taking three days to get from Falkirk to Hamilton, and that they needed to get the office on-line. As far as I knew it didn't happen. But your post sparked a memory of a discussion at our Fed delegate meeting two weeks ago where it was said that SHU? had email contacts for everyone and information on AI / racing restrictions would be emailed out. Yet this thread shows SHU used Post Office to get AI stuff out to Fife??? Was it just the single letter from the Executive or a lift from their website giving the restrictions? Surely if SHU had a website they would publish the info there too?
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 I THINK BRUNO THE VAST AMOUNT THE SHU OFFICE [10 MINUTES AWAY FROM ME ]SPENT ON COMPUTERS , THINK IT WAS TWO YEARS AGO, PART OF IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN SPENT ON TEACHING THEM HOW TO USE THEM TO SEND OUT INFORMATION TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE PAYING FOR THEM.WE HAVE A FEDERATION DELEGATES MEETING ON 19/04/06 AND I WILL BE GETTING THIS BROUGHT UP.
Guest Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 unless u have a good club sec who will let members know of SHU material which he may or may not get trough the post then the majority of the membership can forget about keeping in touch with things. THAT'S A FACT AS FAR AS THE SHU GOES. I phoned the shu the other day and the way in which they answered the phone was terrible, & that's not the first time. Get up to date SHU get on line and keep us members up to date with serious issues . At least we can keep up to date with the RPRA postings
