If you wanted to fly up to 330 miles what would be the best stain to race?

Is that 330 miles inland or across the water?  It makes one hell of a difference!

 

Whatever family people volunteer its all about finding the "hot spots" in each respective family - that's the hard bit

wouldnt go for any so called strain,i would go for pigeons that have won through generations up to that distance and to that area.

Maybe your right Tomo-  but I can find you some families that won't win at 330 miles irrespective of what you give 'em.  Not that they are bad pigeons, but if they don't excel then they'll get nobbled by a different pigeon that does excel.

 

Can't tell me a breakneck sprinter is gonna win from 330 miles across the brook into Yorkshire on a dirty NE wind consistently,.

Yeah , Mike is quite right about the Laeremans birds , from our own experience they are super birds and they do a hell of a lot of damage out to 200 miles, get them out to 250+ miles and they will struggle....

yeah you are right mike but then again they aint many pigeons what will fly 330mls in north east wind consistently to win

louis van leeputten (sprinters) top fed at 360 mls 100% leepo top fed at 480 mls 50% leepo.

still think its how you feed them though mike lets call it 50/50

A guy near me flies Frans laeremans and wins with them up to 400 miles...though with the greatest respect to the rest of us....this guy is such a genius with his birds he could win flying an house sparrow.

I also have been slowly putting a team together for the 200-400mls races. I have selected pigeons that are either racers or children of racers that have won from that distance at National and Classic level. The funny thing is i didnt need to select on size or type as they were all the same stamp of pigeon! I was lucky that some were of similiar families, ie Janssen, Voets, Schellens and Van Den Abeele. I selected these from England, Belguim and Holland and i really did do my home work. Only time will tell if i got it right!!!!

P.S Goods that are grown by other and reeped by yourself will some pass and require replenishment, Grow your own fruit it tastes better, for longer and you know were it came from! (Everybody can be a strain creater)

 

What i mean by the above statement is always look to your own pigeons, if you purchase carefully and let your new introduction grow and develop in your hands and show there true worth before superseeding them!!!

For a good national team you need two types of pigeons one for Nantes and one for Pau, the Brinkmans are in the Pau team ofcoarse!!!!

Exactly mate - not 300 mile pigeons!

 

All I';m saying is you could feed ther Brinkmann's whatever yuo want, but I do'nt believe they have the pace to nail a 330 mile race.   I think its predominantly horses for courses.   That being the case begs the questions

 

IS THE VERSATILE PIGEON DEAD?    WILL HE ALWAYS BE NOBBLED BY A "SPECIALIST"????

I've akways had good luck at any distance with our Janssens that have Jan Aarden bred into them, especially on tough ones

what about a strain that can win from 40 to 600 miles??or does it all come down to the feed?

Our Bauwens birds are the nearest we have got to establishing an all round family. We have had winners from 40 miles out to national wins at 560 miles. They are certainly not sprinters as they would win once in a blue moon from those races but once they hit the 250 mile mark they are ready for the challenge....

Sorry mike horses for courses, i totaly agree! I have developed one family from 300 mile pigeons for 300miles and a distance family around 500-600mile day pigeons.

 

But im very lucky to have a partner such has Raymond Moleveld, he has the finest team of distance pigeon i have ever seen!!!!!!!

 

P.S. Ive found a new star in Holland, his pigeons are the best middle distance pigeons, i have ever handled!!! he is the only guy who can beat Koopmans at the moment!! he is breeding winners for lots of people. Me and Raymond have ordered a round so it will be interesting to see what they are like but they are really good middle distance pigeons and priced to suit as well!!!!!
