bren23 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 i know there are a million products to put in the drinker. i've been told to use electrolytes on a saturday , tea on sunday, garlic mon and tues multivits on wed and thurs clear water fri , and treat for canker every 4th sunday. is this a good system. or is just plain water better,
Mike Lycett Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Bren Certainly go with the electrolytes on a saturday but the birds need plenty clear water. treating for canker every 4 weeks or so isn't the worst advice in the world either. The rest I'd stay away from personally Mike
Guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I'd stay away from most of it too, just the electrolytes on Saturday, but if it's been a hard race we substitute eyectrolytes with Honey
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 USE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE IN THE WATER, ON A SATURDAY I USE A MIXTURE OF GLUCOSE AND HONEY NO MATTER WHAT THE RACE HAS BEEN LIKE
Guest WINGS 04 Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I ALWAYS GIVE MILLTON ONCE A WEEK AND HONEY AND GARLIC
Guest Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Think it important that irrespective of whatever you decide to put in the water that it doesn't affect the birds desire to drink. There's nothing worse than seeing the birds drinking absolutely everywhere EXCEPT from the drinker.
JAS Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 JUST THE SAME AS WINGS 04 ELECTROLYTES ON SAT. JUST A DROP OF MILTON IN THE DRINKERS ON SUN.EVERY FOUR WEEKS 2 DAYS ON B.S.
westy Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 plane warter all week but garlic some day during the week
swilcox Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Mate Try not to put anything in the water, they dont like it!!!! Look for something that can be mixed on the food with a bit of oil, much better for them and nothing is waisted!!! Stuart
Rentenier Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 I aggree with swilcox. If you have to put anything in the water do it on Monday.
carl Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 v18 in the water every sunday for old and youngbirds, watch the down feathers the following day.
Chris Little Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 The cleaner the water the better the pigeons perform..... proven fact Far too many people selling "go faster" products nowdays
Chris Little Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 Too right mate The princess to the left didn't need any ;D ;D ;D ;D
THE FIFER Posted May 1, 2006 Report Posted May 1, 2006 be careful with the garlic, it makes them thirsty, i use it but not to near race day
bren23 Posted May 1, 2006 Author Report Posted May 1, 2006 thanks for all the advice, i'm going to do my own thing , buy the best food money can buy , train them hard , give them bottled mineral water in their drinker, and see how many i end up with.
pigeonland Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 i use monday fresh water tuesday 5ml cider vinegar per 2ltr water wednesday same thursday same friday fresh water saturday nyfuramicin sunday honey & garlic
Guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I guess bottled mineral water is better that tap water with all the additives they put in it thesedays. We're lucky we have crystal clear well water.
TheSaddler Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Using antibiotics weekly will lead to problems - The pigeons will develop a resistance to it and when you do get real problems - Your up a creek without a paddle..
slatey Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 i use a diffrent anti-biotic every sun only for 24hrs with ybs in case they pick ought up from the basket. but not with old birds pigeonland.
Guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 I'm not sure that you will achieve anything doing 'spot' treatments with antibiotics other than perhaps damage the bird's immune system and create antibiotic-resistant bugs. Using different ones 'week-about' may not be the answer either. Many different brand names may be based on the same chemical substance.
jimmy white Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 wouldnt use antibiotics, i would anticipate future trouble with that. i used to use electolytes[reheydration salts]when the bird come back from race,, but have used honey, milk, glucose ect, [not alltogether off course ;D ;D],but found with electrlytes , their droppings return back to normal quicker
