Pigeons never cease to surprise me with some of the things they do. We recently weaned some third round youngsters and one of the first to be put into that section (almost certainly a cock) has started to feed any of the others who are too lazy to feed themselves! Bearing in mind he is only a week or so older than the rest I find this very unusual and can't recall it happening before. Anyone else had a similar experience ?

I've watched youngsters that were about 3 weeks older look after newly weaned babies. This bird was a hen, she saw off other birds that were havin a go at the newly weaned ones and she appeared to show them the water fountain and how to drink - doing it several times then "tapping" the babies beak.

They really are truly amazing.

Last week after we took our clock in for reading we were 5 birds out.  When we put the module back in the unit it showed 3 birds returned but only 2 were sat on the landing board. We always let our trap down when we're not there, in case unwelcomed visitors try to get in the loft.  We couldn't find 1644, he was registered on the clock but no sign of him on the roof etc.

The Little bugger had managed to push the trap door open and when we went in the loft, he was happily sat with his hen in his nest box.

Seen babbies feed one another before had it this year aswell. All weaned together.

Funniest thing I've seen is when you wean 'em from stock pen, put 'em in young bird pen, never seen outside. Then they just casualy wander off to the stock pen.

That I do find amazing
