swilcox Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 After 3 years of uncertainty in my life on a personnel and career front I am finally ready to return to the fold of pigeon flying on my own. I have for the last 2 seasons been flying in partnership and my partner recently informed me he intends to leave the sport so I have a busy few months finding a house with a suitable garden and deciding on lofts, pigeons etc. A completely fresh start, well nearly I already have a super team of pigeons but that’s where it ends. If you were in my position what route would you take with regard to lofts, systems, numbers of birds etc? I have one basic aim and that’s to win a national so my team needs to Fly Nantes, Dax and Pau. In my experience pigeons that succeed from Nantes and Pau tend to be totally different so do I need too teams, is widowhood my only option? Time wise I leave for work at 7.30 am so that gives me 11/2 hours in the morning and about 2 hours in the evening. In terms of Racing YBs they have never been a priority as I like to educate them and let them go so darkness isn’t a must for me. So put yourself in my shows, what would be your advice if you done it all again. Regards Stuart Wilcox
GREENGRASS Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 location, location, location and by that i mean find yourself a house where you can race your birds in peace from your own back garden free from any hassle ie neighbours cats etc. Then write down everything you want from your loft, roof type, sections, size, depth, boxes, perches. If you get it right first time it means less tinkering and changes when the birds are trying to settle. Then you will need a team of birds capable of winning for you and a system to match. But judging by the cock you sent up to myself you sound as if you have good team of birds already. all the best with your new venture and the best of luck to you.
Guest Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 I would go to petron lofts and purchase one of their Royale Lofts, with all the extras and get some automatic boxes, so you can spend less time cleaning out and more time with the birds. Im stopping racing after this season, but if I start up again thats what I would do. Good luck with your fresh start
