this will be my 1st season racing y/b's i've been told to train them y/b twice a day from 30 miles .3 weeks before 1st y/b race is this a good idea

When we train young birds we start them off close to home, until they gain confidence, a few times at each training point, in 5 mile increments starting about 5 weeks before the first race. 3 or 4 times at 5 miles, same at 10 miles, 15 and then might jump to 25 miles for 2 or 3 chucks. Then once or twice from 40 miles.

First race for us is 55 miles.

Some fanciers don't bother and throw the poor buggers in at the deep end - sink or swim style   :(
