bren23 Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 this will be my 1st season racing y/b's i've been told to train them y/b twice a day from 30 miles .3 weeks before 1st y/b race is this a good idea
rockinrick Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 as much as you can ( training ) is always a bonus i think
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 When we train young birds we start them off close to home, until they gain confidence, a few times at each training point, in 5 mile increments starting about 5 weeks before the first race. 3 or 4 times at 5 miles, same at 10 miles, 15 and then might jump to 25 miles for 2 or 3 chucks. Then once or twice from 40 miles. First race for us is 55 miles. Some fanciers don't bother and throw the poor buggers in at the deep end - sink or swim style
Guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 http://www.pigeonbasics.com/forum/blah/m-1148810973/s-new/ This is a sound approach to training.
westy Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 when i get them to 20 miles training evrey day up ontill end of racing but now train 1 day miss 1 day and so on so i dont push them too much.
