Guest Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 why do we have to bother with wing stamping our birds or even ringing them,it seems a waist of time and money with all the birds that i have lost over the years i have never had one reported and there is some birds amonst them i would like to get back.i know some birds fall to hawks and hit wires and killed and some end up on the strreets but not all of them so someome somewhere have some of my birds in their loft.if they lost a bird that they wanted back they would hope that someone would report it.i had a stray pigeon in my loft a few weeks back and it had the phone number of the owner on the wing so i phoned him and the bird came from cambridge and i am in north yorkshire, the owner asked me to feed it up for a day or two then let it up so i did just that, that evening the owner phoned me back to say that the bird was back home and said that if there was more pigeon fancers around like me we would get more of our birds back.well i cant agree more we are all in this game and all should do the right thing when it come to getting a stray pigeon in our lofts.im sure most of you do just that but its the ones out there that dont that the rest of us have to suffer the loss of some good birds. mark BARLBYLOFTS
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 I couldn't have put it better myself. Nursed one back to health for two weeks after contacting owner, wasn't able to phone owner to say bird had been liberated, but he phoned to say bird was back and in excellent condition - should bloody think so - it had been on gemthepax, probiotics, mulitvitamins and good corn for a fortnight !! It made the 180 mile journey home in less than 4 hours, with a slight tail wind. Only had one bird reported so far ( but I'm not counting the one I had reported 200 yards down the road - still, was delighted to get her back and collected her )
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 just lately over the past few years whenever i report a bird the owner is either in hospital or just lost their job or ao.a.p. or packing up they ussually ask to have it thrown up sometimes never asking what condition the bird is in is it any wonder fanciers dont report birds
