5:40 am., sun well up, moderate north-easterly wind, fine fresh morning in Lerwick. Ray Butler and Big John get the birds away in what must be one of the best libs you will see from Lerwick. A good clean release with no stragglers.

Good to see Ray Butler looking well after a spell of poor health.

Best of luck to all those taking part, I hope the tail wind at the Lerwick end will give good velocities.

The truck was tight up to the fence, the lower crates not in use. The birds were well clear.

Hope there were no pigeons in the top rows either as they will have got left behind

The lower baskets are always liberated first to combat the 'push down' from the birds liberated above.

Been raining here most of the morning with some mist, seems to be clearing now, hope they get through ok.

As Yorkshire North Road and LCC Secretary I would like to say we had birds into Yotkshire by 1.45pm and returns were good. Thanks to Ray and John for a good race and to the person who posted the photos as it is good to see how they started out. I will post highest velocities and winner of Queens Cup details later in the week

What fantastic pictures, thanks to the photographer for enlightening us and proving to all what a fantastic morning it was weather wise in Lerwick yesterday.  Glad to report most fanciers have 100% returns, Dad and I included!  As Scribe for the Yorkshire North Road Fed and LCC I wonder if the Photographer would let me have copies of the pictures to accompany my article in the British Homing World?  I would obviously give you the credit you deserve for these fantastic photos and the fantastic website you have.

Yorkshire Lass you are welcome to use what pics you need, i have pm'd you.

Mark, you are so right, i remember a real stonker 'way back about '89 or so. It can all too easily go wrong. There's so much technology to help now with mobile phones, forecasts and so on. I'm glad this one was a success.
