Guest jason Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 does anyone think its possible to over-train pigeons (over do it)? mine have had 6x25 mile chucks (young birds) and look absolutely knackered :'( I've given them the weekend off for a rest as all they do all day after training is sleep. any views would be appreciated (not sure of spelling) thanks jason
Chatrace Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Treat for Respatory and get back on the road. Mine will go every day its not raining and will stop going out after the did 1 75 mile toss, will cut back to just 2-35 mile and 1-50 a week after that
Tony C Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Healthy youngbirds should be like children, boundless energy. Check them out.
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 6 tosses shouldn't even be wearing on them you need to look at feed or as someone else said respitory YES it is possible to overtrain but unless you are flying them in ridiclous conditions you shouldnt have problems
Guest jason Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Thanks for the comments, I will treat them for respitory.
kelly tom Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 i train my young birds monday to friday 30 miles after exercise which normally lasts over one and a half hours cocks and hens are in seperate comparments treat for canker once a month spray the loft every sunday with enviroklenz nothing in the water the birds are bouncing
bewted Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 jason,,,thought for you,,,,,find cause of respiratory problem,if not,you will allways be treating without finding problem to help you,VENTILATION? TED
jimmy white Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 sorry to say jason , but theres something amiss ybs should thrive on 25 mile tosses,, every day if poss,[weather permitting off course] is there any decent fliers near you willing to help you, to look on the bright side ,it might be something very simple that could be put right easily, best of luck anyway jason and hope you get to the bottom of it
Guest jason Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 just been out to the birds and its dark, but a street light shines in the loft could this be the cause of my birds being knackered. if the lofts lit up all night will the birds rest properly? :-/
superstar Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Well street lighting might affect them but im sure the birds get used to it as they grew up to that enviroment, unless you got kids hanging round under it till all hours? then that might make a difference. The birds here get disturbed by security lights going on and off all night and they dont seem bothered by it and they do get trained hard and show no signs of wilting. Seems you might have a bit of something going on health wise. Have you done all the treatments and are they up to date? It doesnt take much of a problem to stop them in their tracks and its easy to forget something. Its a shame though i admired those birds of yours months back in the pictures bit of this forum. I hope you get it sussed and sorted and some of the ones you have dropped work back home for you. If you want to pick my tiny brain on the subject feel free to send me a PM and i will do my best to help you out.
Guest jason Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 I've treated birds for cocci, canker, worms and now are being treated for respitory. the birds are slowly getting back to a good level of fitness, they flew for 55 minutes this morning, but about 1/2 of them have been asleep since. as they're flying so long I don't think there is a lot wrong with them,(my neighbour keeps pigeons aswell and his won't fly longer than 10 minutes). cheers jason
Diamond dave Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Jason, Whilst I have to agree with everyone elses posts, I would just like to add that if you are training them in the east winds that we have had of late - you will knock the stuffing out of the birds!!!!!!
Guest jason Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 I've not been training in east winds but I have been letting them exercise from the loft in east winds. can't way them up at all, yesterday morning they flew for 55 minutes. yesterday evening they flew for 45 minutes. this morning they flew for 1 hour 15 minutes and they're all still alert in loft, no tiredness and I'm very pleased with them again! ;D thanks everyone jason
