Question

I have had a pair sitting on eggs for about 3 days now and i need to move them into a new loft because i am going on holiday. Is thier anyway that i can move the bowl with the eggs in to the new loft so they can sit them in a diffrent place or will they dissert the eggs??? i really need these eggs to hatch because i lost a few birds recently but i also need to move to pair into the new loft.

 

Has anyone got any advice from their expeiriences... :-/

They will most likely dissert them if you move them to a new loft.  Maybe if you have other pairs setting in the new loft you can give them an extra egg. But timing is important. If you just go ahead a move them they will probably make a new nest and be back on eggs in about 10 days.

put them in the new loft if they dont sit on them they will go down again

well my uncle didnt want this pair of stock birds they were paired up and sitting 10 day old eggs so i took the pair of bird with the bowl of eggs and put them in the new loft which was 5 mile away and dosent look nothing like what they come out of, i locked them in a spare box with there bowl of eggs and they sat them no problem and they hatched out reared well and i even weand them away a month ago.

 

so my advise to u is try it and see what happens, but if u want the youngens really really bad leave them were they r.

Only experience I've had on this is when the hen laid the second round outside the pair's box rather than in it. Always wanted back to where she laid, even though egg was moved to her bowl in her box!

 

Agree with others ... no chance they'll take to them after being moved to your new loft, but they will go down again quickly.

It really depends on the parent birds and the loft environment and how the pigeons 'get on' with the fancier.

With one pair recently I have moved the nest to a new location. The hen laid on the floor behind the loft door so I moved the first egg 4 ft to an opposite corner and the parents continued sitting.

I have heard of fanciers checking if eggs are full and the parents then desert.

If you move them try to give them a box in a similar position, and the same coloured box front, you could also try locking one or both parents in. You will soon know if they are going to continue incubating.

if the pair are in a box and locked in,i cannot see it being a problem if you move them to a simular box ..if not like has been said they'll lay again

Suggest you don't move them to a new loft.  Unless your'e VERY lucky, the parent birds will desert them.

If your'e going on holiday, you will have to forfeit the eggs by moving the parents to their new loft.  If your'e going away for two weeks or more, by the time you get back old hen will be on the verge of laying or will have layed again.

i moved the birds and the bowl to my new loft, and after about half an hour the birds went back to the eggs and are still sitting them now.

 

Will the eggs be ok because they have been left for half an hour??? and how long can eggs normally be left for without them 'dying'???
