here is a copy of a email ive sent to amtrak today wilde flyer and my self sat in all day waiting for some birds to be collected this is the 4th time in 12-16 months ive used them.

1st time 1 bird lost the box opened

2nd in the heat wave the birds were 37 hrs in the boxes

4th fine

5th this time

Dear sir or madam

I feel I must express how I feel after the way my business has been treated by your office on the 28/10/05 I made the attempt and I say attempt to send 2 racing pigeons from my home to a gent in Cleveland your switch board which I will say were helpful gave me the number 01922 740235 which I started to try and contact,

After 6 and a half hours of the phone ringing out then engaged as soon as I hit redial I went back to the switch board to plead help as these birds had to be on the way.

After a few attempts the lady there manage to finally get me through. The reception I received I can only say took my breath and the quote"well I've been stuck here all day n want to go home" and "well I've got other things to do"should have warned me but I did place the details and hoped that was that.

So today the 29/10/05 I have waited in all day for the collection. At 4.30 I decided to try and contact the the number again to see what had happened as no one had turned up. Fortunately this time a very nice young lady replied to the call straight away (surprise surprise she was not at work on the 24th) but she informed me that the order had not been put through.

So after 6and a half hrs ringing being spoken to like they couldn't care less and then not bothering to put the order through I have finally today manage to arrange collection for tomorrow now.

I feel that the way this lady spoke to me and her attitude to her job I feel you should be made aware of the way customers are being treated.

I will be forwarding a letter to the British homing world and the Racing Pigeon on this matter.

Yours A Wilkins

is it just me or do others have problems

p.s wilde flyer has a wanted advert up please some one sort him as he uses my pc and doing my head in ringing or checking cheers (only jokin m8 you welcome here any time)

Generally speaking, had a bad time with them.Trouble is their 0870 no. makes a bad experience that much worse!!...Bad enough complaining without it costing me a small fortune.

We have little choice but to use them and they know it! Dont think the ruling unions are doing  enough about it.They make the rule of fanciers having to have birds collected from people good enough to report them ,you do your duty and send for them and it takes FOUR DAYS and numerous phone calls for it to happen! Honestly, now when I get a bird reported my heart sinks.

A LITTLE TIP I'VE LEARNED IS LOOK UP SAYNOTO0870.COM  FOR AMTRAK  LOCAL       No.s

In Canada and America, does they have an transport if you purchase new birds?

Used them a couple of times without problems: In fact the time I had to arrange collection from a non-fancier, I arranged it through the local office (Kirkcaldy) explained that it was a non-fancier, was promised same-day afternoon collection, phoned non-fancier in Durham to confirm this, was chatting away to her about pigeons, when her door went ... Amtrack collecting bird.

Note that there are other carriers. One in Scotland (delivers Scotland only) advertised by SHU on back of stray advice form, and there's also another in England (run by a fancier?)

I MUST ADMIT I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WHEN I HAVE USED AMTRAK PERHAPS I AM LUCKY THAT WE HAVE A VERY GOOD LOCAL DEPOT THAT ALLWAYS SEEMS TO BE VERY POLITE AND DO EXACTLY WHAT IS ASKED OF THEM.MY FIRST PHONE CALL THOUGTH IS ALLWAYS TO ROGER "THE PHANTOM FLYER"I HAVE ALLWAYS USED HIM SINCE HE STARTED AND FIND IS SERVICE SECOND TO NONE THE ONLY PROBLEM BEING IS THAT HE ONLY COVERS PARK OF THE COUNTRY.BEING A PIGEON FANCIER HIM SELF HE KNOWS EXACTLY HOW TO TREAT THE BIRDS AND FEEDS AND WATERS THEM IF HE NEEDS

TO AS SOMETIMES HE MAY KEEP THEM A EXTRA NIGHT IF IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR HIM TO DELIVER THEM WHEN HE IS COMING THIS WAY,WHICH HE CHARGES NO EXTRA FOR.

Well, I recently got a pigeon using Amtrak and we had a nightmare getting the bird to me. Firstly they turned up without a box, and then the next day they turned up with a box and said they would only accept payment using a cheque. So I arranged to get it picked up from my end and they firstly took it to the wrong depot, then took it to the wrong address. Eventually I got the poor at 2pm. Good price though £22 is a bargain, when I think of the distance the bird came from.

agree with spelbin, i had to wait in 3 days to eventualy get the bird picked up, then as he said it went to the wrong depot and wrong address, not bad for £22? they wouldnt take cash or credit card, it took us 4 days to get it all sorted out, i found it a bit ridiculous, that they paid a man to call, to tell me they had no box, no wonder its £22

WHY DO THEY AGREE TO COLLECT A BIRD WHEN THEY HAVE NO BOX'S.

WHY WOULD THEY NOT TAKE CASH, WE HAVE ALWAYS PAID CASH ON DELIVERY.

WHY SHOULD YOU HAVE TO WAIT 3 DAYS FOR A BIRD TO BE COLLECTED.

WHY DO THEY MAKE SO MANY MISTAKES.

WHY WAS IT THAT WHEN ONE PERSON SENT OUT 2 LOTS OF BIRDS THAT NONE WENT TO  THE RIGHT ADDRESS,

WHY DO THEY SAY ONE THING AND DO ANOTHER.??????

BECAUSE THEY KNOW MOST FANCIERS HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO USE THEM,

AND THERE FOR WE JUST HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT.

THERE WORDS NOT MINE,  IT IS ABOUT TIME OTHER CARRIERS OFFERED THIS SERVICE.

CRAP SERVICE ,  VERY OFTERN THEY ARE LATE DELIVERING SO BIRDS ARE IN THE BOX'S LONGER THAN THE POWERS THAT BE SAY THEY SHOULD BE,

DO THEY CARE ?????.  NO CHANCE.

Although you seem to be having problems with Amtrak, you really don't know how lucky you are.

Shipping birds is becoming near to impossible in the States. Our birds are carried normally by air through the United States Postal System, but due to attacks on against us by Peta to the Airlines, a lot of them have now refused to carry pigeons nd the ones that do will not take them if there is a transfer from one plane to another. To book a shipment we have to call the Express Mail agent at the airports who will schedule a flight if there is one direct, unfortunately there seem to be animal rights activists within the ranks of the Postal employees who are refusing to take the birds and being very very rude to the breeders.

We had to ship 32 birds out last Monday for our auction in Ohio, we duly booked the flight and sent the birds on their way.  We got a call 25 hours after the birds had been sat in the Express Mail Facility at Portland Airport to tell us the airline had refused to carry them.  We had to reroute the birds to a friend in Denver who collected them relabelled the boxes and put them back for a flight to Columbus, this involved stress on the pigeons , loss of insurance as the journey could not be completed as originally quoted and double shipping fees.

I never had problems with Amtrak in England, shipping birds is a total nightmare in the States

GLAD WE DO NOT HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH SHIPPING THEM.

BUT I THINK WE HAVE THE SAME TROUBLE WIYH SOME STAFF THINKING THAT IT IS CRULE TO SEND BIRDS THIS WAY,

ALSO I BELIVE THAT WE HAVE HAD THE ANIMAL RIGHTS AT SOME LIBERATION SITES

SO I THINK WE WILL BE ONE OF THERE NEXT TARGETS.

Believre me Ray  We are targets now, this is why I urge poeple to be careful what they say on this forum

the ars main target now is dog racing after fox hunting,i thought fishing would be next but its about the 2nd most popular sport in britian they know they have not got a hope of getting it banned. watch out for people knocking on your doors like the bogus gas men

The problem with am trak is they employ all their drivers on franchise, this is where you get the variation in treatment some care others don't it depends on the way they are treated by their employers who have the franchise :)

Some people won't pay the Amtrax when the birds comes to your door any reason for this? a member of NPA says must pay to Amtrax before taking the birds why is this had to pay amtrax before recieve birds?
