CHRIS THE PADS MUST BE INSIDE THE LOFT AND SEALED, INSIDE A SPUTNIK IS OK, UR PADS ARE SO THE BIRDS DROP IN AND LAND ON OR WALK OVER THE PADS, THERE ARE 2-3 DIFFERENT WAYS, THERE IS THE STALL TRAPS, BUT IN MY OPINION A BIRD DROPPING IN A STALL TRAP ARE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WIRES SO ARE THEY IN THE LOFT, WHEN USING THE RUBBER RING METHOD U LOCK UR STALL TRAP SO THE BIRD CANNOT GET INTO THE LOFT SO AS TO TAKE UR RUBBER OFF, SO I SEE UR CONCERN, BUT YES THE SPUTNICK METHOD IS OK THEY ARE IN THE LOFT DROPPING IN THE SPUTNICK. SORRY I DID NOT KNOW U HAD ETS AND WAS WANTING INFO,

hi everybody,

thinking of coming back into racing after 8 year abstention with much reluctance i must add,Anyway was thinking of using ETS in my new loft! get the idea that it is not to popular with some, Can somebody put me right as to why this should be as I thought that not having to handle trapping birds all the time would be a good thing. can somebody please put me right.

This is my 7th season using ETS and I have never had a "Trap shy" bird yet

Hi James,

              Some think it's a good system and others not so good for many different reasons.  Each to his own.

If your working on race day, or have any difficulty in clocking, then it has got to be beneficial to you.

If your like me and love to clock the birds in after watching them come, then the orthodox syetem suits.  There is also the cost factor.  There are many arguments for and against but you will find elsewhere on the forum, a lengthy debate on ETS.  

Make your own mind up after reading through the comments.

James the electronic  system will probably be in everyday use within a couple of years. as tt says if you work shifts etc it could be a godsend. some dont like it for various reasons ie very vague rules or guidelines and some just want to handle their birds on return etc. first check to see if it is allowed to be used in your club fed.

also a great help for the disabled,,,but no wish to go in to it in detail, as it usually finishes up a rumpus,, but whats wrong with a sensible debate,,,,if thats possible,

theres a big differance to a debate rather than an arguement

Thanks everybody ,

                          some good points I think I can see me going the ETS route as when I was racing it wasnt the first time that I was called away to work just before the birds were due to drop!! (self employed and all that) but this system seems to be the answer. Good luck to all those involved in channel racing tonight.

At first when I arrived in the States, I wasn't happy about using ETS, told Steve to get me a proper clock for my young birds, but after a few training tosses with the old birds I was converted 100%

 

Best thing since sliced bread.

THERE HAS ONLY BEEN ONE MEMBER IN OUR CLUB WHO HAS USED ETS AND THE REASON FOR THIS WAS BECAUSE HE TOOK A STROKE AND COULD NEVER CATCH ANY BIRDS BECAUSE HE WAS AND STILL IS PARALYSED DOWN ONE SIDE AND NOBODY ELSE WANTED IT BECAUSE WE HAD THE CHANCE TO BUY ETS WHEN I GOT THE LOTTERY GRANT FOR OUR CLUB BUT EVERYBODY AGREED THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN ETS AND I BOUGHT T3 CLOCKS FOR US ALL BUT IF ANYBODY ELSE JOINED THE CLUB AND WANTED TO USE ETS THERE WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM ABOUT IT AND IT BECOMES LEGAL TO USE IN ANY SHU RACES NEXT YEAR,AND INCIDENTALLY THE PERSON WHO TOOK THE STROKE WAS HUGHIE BROWN AND I AM SURE SOME OF THE MEMBERS ON THE FORUM WILL HAVE KNEW HIM AS HE WAS AN EXCELLENT FLIER AND WHEN HE JOINED OUR CLUB HE CERTAINLY GAVE ME A GREAT DEAL OF HELP BUT SADLY HE HAS BEEN HOSPITALISED FOR A FEW MONTHS NOW AND IS NOT MAKING ANY SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS.

Having used it for the first time with the obs this year I've found it absolutely brilliant.

It has been a dream to watch the birds return from a race and run right through the trapping inserts and knowing that you don't have to dart into the loft after it, but still getting the buzz.

 

I'm really looking forward in seeing the difference with the yb racing.

First race today and not one single yb stressed out with having to be caught......great!!!

 

To answer your question.............I wouldn't want to, not when you see how easy it is to operate, less admin and stress for the birds.

I currently use the ets, great for training and young bird racing with birds not being frightened. But i would alway use STB quarts for channel racing. When permitted, i wonder if quarts can be used as a second clock?

 

ETS definatly more time saving for fancier and secretary and is becoming more popular in clubs, more fanciers are starting to come around to the idea of ets.
