Guest CS Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 If you had YB Sickness, what would you give your YBs a treatment?
westburylofts Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 I used this system for yb sickness when i had it. feed barly only add to 2 ltr's or water, 1 tea spn bicarb soda, 1 tea spn epson salts , 1 table spn glucose powder. worked well for us treat for 3 days ours improved in two days. ray
superstar Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 Parastop from Belgica De Weerd, use that for a few days as soon as you see one holding corn. It will stop most of the sickness in the other birds but takes a week or so before the birds are flying right again.
speedbird Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 a big must is stop all exercise, training, racing
Guest jason Posted August 11, 2006 Report Posted August 11, 2006 When mine had it (before season started) I used Adenosan the treatment is for 5 days, so I did it for 5 days though the birds were right after 3. ;D jason
peterpau Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Cider vinegar in the water natural yoghurt on the food
THE FIFER Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 VINEGAR IN THE WATER, NO FOOD, FOR 2 DAYS SHOULD KLEAR IT UP. MAKE SURE THEY ARE DRINKING,
T_T Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 For those that want to use Cider Vinegar, what would the dosage be.?
THE FIFER Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 for normal usage 3 tablespoons per drinker (two and a half pints) water, for yb sickness double this for 2-3 days.
seagull Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 nifamycin from romfield products 1 of the best on the market
Guest Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Fifer is that right for cider vinegar, I read an article once that said one teaspoon for 1 litre as anything more could burn the liver. Have I been under dosing??
Guest Posted August 12, 2006 Report Posted August 12, 2006 Bit of a sore point with me just now. > It seems to be doing the rounds up here at least with whole teams going down. Many previous discussions on this forum. But the 'illness' seems to be developing into a more serious disease [syndrome] according to an article in the BHW a few months back. Seems the 'virus' part of it remains with the bird 'as particles' which spring back to life with a vengeance when it is an old bird with serious consequences,,, So would repeat my earlier advice about watching the birds and isolating the first case and not letting it spread to the rest of the team. And if the syndrome article is even half true, dont medicate ... bin.
peterpau Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Widowmaker I think you're right, 1 tablespoon 3 times a week for mine. If sickness present, 1 tablespoon everyday. As for yoghurt (Live) similar treatment
THE FIFER Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 u could be right but this is what use, put a teaspoon of vinegar in a pint of water and try it ur self u wouldn't know it was there, but stick to what u know,is the safest way.
fifestay Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Yip live Youghurt on Corn and plenty fresh water with garlic and Honey .. Adenosan and if really bad i.e. Birds dropping of Perchs cull or use Baytrill .....and probiotics ...Baytril is not a road i would go but it works !!!
Guest Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Sorry to go on but I am confused by the last couple of postings. Is it Tablespoon or Teaspoon?? Cheers
THE FIFER Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 sorry I had 3 tablespoons per pint, it's 3 tablespoons per drinker (two and a half pints) that is , sorry about that, that is what i use once per week, sorted it on my post, but as I say I am only a fancier with my ideas, I am a vinegar fanatic, use it for stings etc, u know those bites u get and ar itchy put some viegar on them, also great for household cleaning, but always remember if someone tells u about something to give ur birds and u think its wrong then do not give,
Guest Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Fair enough Fifer, I am a big beleiver in vinegar too thats why I was worried that maybe I wasn't giving enough to be effective.
THE FIFER Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 well certainly u are not overdoing it with a teaspoon, i would change to tablespoon,
peterpau Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Hmmmmm Tablespoon per drinker for the birds..........1 teaspoon per glass of water + honey everyday for me.......Not the birds......... Young bird sickness is a virus where e-coli levels increase. Acidify the gut with, yoghurt cider vinegar or even lemon juice and e-coli levels come down.
Guest CS Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Peterpau, what lemon juice do for pigeon health? ? ?
peterpau Posted August 13, 2006 Report Posted August 13, 2006 Ask Hyacinth. She's the girl who recommends it. Acidify the gut is the key.
