Guest Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Well I didn't look close enough, the hen passed a fully shaped membrane with no shell, that's why it looked orange to me. The hen died this afternoon, the shell must have detached inside her. Neither us or our club mates have ever seen anything like this before.
jimmy white Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 beleive it or not i had that linda ist egg laid without shell pefectly formed, never laid second egg, bird looked down then, took it to the vet, they had to put the bird down, and pm it, other egg was stuck inside her, vets reply was "something wrong with its egg laying machinary" the bird was 4th in the race b4 that
maverick Posted August 10, 2006 Report Posted August 10, 2006 I HAD THIS A FEW YEARS AGO WITH A STOCK HEN, I GAVE THE HEN A GOOD CLEAN OUT WITH SALTS AS SOON AS I SEEN THE EGG AND THE HEN WAS LAYING GOOD EGGS IN AROUND 4 WEEKS.THAT WAS WHY I ASKED IF THE SHELL HAD FORMED.
Guest Paulo Posted August 15, 2006 Report Posted August 15, 2006 sorry about your hen. I've had a hen lay a couple of dodgy eggs this year all membrane with no shell at all. She seems in good health through and is getting plenty of vitamins and hormoform.
