After looking at the final result it is easy to see that around 33% of the original entry ar still in the loft. Do fanciers think this a fair return out of 1000 entries? [face=Arial][/face]

I do  not know about the returns but the administration and management of the lofts looks to be outstanding. what a breath of fresh air it is to see an organistaion being open and straightforward. all information is freely available at all times. the owners through the web site can trace all entries and full paper trail of the finances of the event from start to finish. we can see from the date of commencement how many entries at what price total income then total expenditure. any questions are answered in a friendly professional manner. I will be back next year. this ranks well above most other one loft set ups. well done and a big thank you to all involved.

Personally I think 33% isn't a good figure, we send to a lot of futurities in the States and the three main ones we support have 75% or more of the original entrants to send to the Race

I think 33% is fairly shocking; even with the young bird losses reported around the county. You've got to remember that these birds have never got mixed up in club/fed baskets and have all been traveling for the same loft in all races and tosses, its not like they've had to break out from batches, the batch has been going where their going.

Even with all these extra obstacles in our own lofts I'd be devastated with 66% losses.

Anyhow, you pays your money and takes your chance. I agree with johno, I think its one of the better one loft races in this country and it wouldnt put me off sending in the future.

I agree with mealy bar 33% returns is very poor in fact I would be gutted if I got 50% returns with my own birds

Hi There. I am new to this site you guys might have made a mistake. There are 80% returns from the final race of the 467 birds that went to the final. Which is the highest % of all returns on the uk in one loft racing. If you look at the vgrc in the west mids only 43 % went to East Prawle no one no`s the returns rate back from the race and thats flying back to there own lofts. The 1loft birds are always clashing with birds on route in training racing. The hardest part is to get the birds healthy in the first place with 400 loft entries with every bug under the sun coming in its a challenge. We thought 1loft racing was easy we thought wrong. Its was our 2nd year and we thought we had done well. Regards

NICE TO SEE YOU ON AT LAST JEZ,HAVE TO BE CAREFULL WHAT I POST UP NOW.I THINK WHAT PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT WAS THE ACTUAL % THAT WAS LEFT TO GO TO THE FINAL RACE OUT OF THE ORIGINAL ENTRIES.

Hi Tony. If we look at the one loft races around the world there best % rates is around 50% to the final race. But what you must think of is how many return. I belive there were 10 on the day from the channel challenge from 450 orginal entries at 200miles. Europa 13 on day from 2400 orginal entries 300 miles scottish one loft race not many left from 200 entries SW one loft race 11 back on day from 240 orginal entries. rpra 219 on day 350 back total from a 1000 200 miles. So the figures do say we are 1 of the better ones. But i am not running the others down as i no how hard it is. ;D

i was interested in the forums opinion on the total number of pigeons left from the original entry. i personally think the per centage highlights the problems we all have with YBs at present. i have followed one loft races for a few years now and i have the opinion that administratively the RPRA race is the best i have seen. every piece of information good or bad is available to those who enter on a public forum. this is not the case in other high profile one loft set ups. some of the other organisations set up a web site and only selectively up date the site. i have entered quite a few over the past years but now all if i am entering will go to the RPRA.

There are more one loft races in the States than I think every other Country combined and over the past 6 years I have been following them very closely looking for good ones to enter.

One of the main problems with one loft races here, is that a lot of the Management do not keep the breeders informed nor do they train the birds as they should.  Most hold parties on race day and there is a lot of money to be made from their cut from the pools and calcuttas, so more birds, more people therefore more money. I have seen this happen time and time again and their returns are very poor to say the least. One especially springs to mind, he had about 90% of the birds left on shipping night and made a very tidy sum on the pools etc. The weather forcast for race day wasn't good for the 300 miler and I happened to mention to the driver that I thought it would be OK as I thought the birds had been trained well from the reports I had. He mentioned very quietly to me that the birds had only been out to 30 miles.  The race was a total disaster with only 3 birds out of 200 ever making it home.

If you are going to enter futurities make sure the Management publish the results of training tosses.  Three of the best I have ever entered send e-mails out to the Breeders with the clock sheet after every training toss. CHATRACE  is to be especially commended for this, his race isn't a high dollar one but he is one of the best in The States for keeping the breeders informed by e-mailing breeders after every training toss and he actually sends out superb photographs.

My advice to anyone entering a one loft futurity is to research the history of previous races before spending your hard earned money.
