jordanp31 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I have rolers and tumblers and need to know the answers to some of these questions... 1. I have birmingham rolers and mags(a sort of tumbler) and want to know whether it is a good idea to let them breed toghether because i have had a lot of people say that i will ruin the birds but on the other hand i have had a lot of people say that i will breed some nice birds... What do you think??? 2. All of my birds seem to be lazy... They always sit on top of the loft roof. I dont want to flag them off because when i have tried this they only go and sit on someone elses roof. Has anyone got any infomation on feed pattern etc or any other tip that will make them fly for a lot longer periods??? thanks for any advice given jordan
Wiley Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I dont no much about roller and tumblers, but i believe it could do with something with the feeding possibly, and possible weight of the pigeons, How much do you feed the birds? And What type of feed do you feed them?
Chatrace Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I would keep them apart as much as possiable to keep the line good. Sitting around is the same for rollers as Homers, to much feed 99% of the time. I have Berms and Bellneck Rollers
jordanp31 Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 At the moment i am feeding a small mix with no peas and no maize because the big grains were killing the youngsters. Also i only have a one section loft so it isnot really possible to keep them seperate so i am stumped...
stew 75 Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 thay may be sitting on roof reason one you my be over feeding or two may be going on moult if over feeding cut down to one ounce off feed per bird once a day example twenty 20 birds 20 ounces try feeding when last bird comes in
Guest Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 I agree with Stew, reckon the birds won't want to fly much just now as they are probably well into the moult. Wondered if you measured the feed out? If not a level soup spoon holds an ounce and you could use one of these to measure the birds daily ration. Make a fuss and call them in when you are measuring out and they should be in by the time you put the hopper on the floor for them. Do that every feeding time. Can't really answer your breeding question. Reckon it depends on what you want to do with your birds (specific breed shows for example) and whether your different breeds take a shine to the other, and go to nest.
bewted Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 agree with you rose,,,,,,,rollers should only be fed wheat for flying, fly better and longer, but, strictly controlled,eg;1 ounce per bird or little over,,,,,,ted
Roland Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 Crossing may make some pretty ones... but like my father said when I was a youngster and had them... They are worthless, both for flying and cost wise. In fact there really is no gain in crossing.
Roland Posted September 20, 2006 Report Posted September 20, 2006 And further their off spring are useless also as breeders!
