Dave A Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 extendig the lofts tiling them and getting ready for 2007
jimmy white Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 i think the winter is the best time to recap on the past season [what did i do right, what did i do wrong ]then to plan the season ahead , systems feeding etc etc notes can allways be written down , then can be changed if need be, theres videos ,books, internet , plenty advice,, its the best time to iron every thing out in your mind , as changing things mid season usualy fails,,,,the old sunday school song allways springs to mind "the wise man built his house upon the rock "the foolish man built his house upon the sand, but the house on the sand fell down"[see i did go to sunday school ;D ;D and my other school was approved ;D ;D ;D], but what im saying is you must have the foundation stock or the birds from these,,,,better with few of these than many of the other , but theres a lot to think, and dream about in the winter , best of luck to you invincable spirit,, [and we all need that as well ;D ;D]
Guest ukseanuk Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 invincible_spirit im the same as you cant wait but could be looky me going to try and break some hens in and av ago b4 yb start ;D cos i can tell you this it will drag for the yb race's for you and its a long time to wait.

Guest Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 Well the bleedin decorating started last Thursday, forgotten how heavy a loaded 6" paint brush is, or how many nooks an artexed ceiling has; On the loft front:- electronic gadgets fitted; mesh panel renewed; got the ventilated ridge system, to fit it when weather picks up; then decide if more air bricks are needed on 2 walls; and fit more plastic ventilators at eaves level. Power wash all the moss off the loft roof tiles; clean the loft back & front gutters and fit 1/2" mesh covers to stop the birds drinking there; change tool store into grain store, get more bins and order in feeding to last whole 2007 race season; have a look at a 2007 training plan for latebreds and other inexperienced birds.
Wiley Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 well the close season started yesterday here, all the lofts cleaned out top and bottom not missing a spot, suprising how many feathers you miss when you go in all the nocks and crannies, seperated the sexes, introduced young cocks to there new loft, and they have all settled well,so all that is left is to get the moult out of all of this years babies and possibly buy in a new hen or two for the stock loft,
Guest Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Buggering off for my annual trip to North Carolina for 2 weeks without Steve and Pigeon crap. Doing an auction of Red Rose birds while I'm down there at the 250 mile race day of a futurity. After that it's crochet hook ready making clothes for my grand daughter who is due lst week in February Steve takes care of all the breeding so it's hey ho and away I go till we start training the old birds.

EVER THOUGHT ABOUT WRITING A BOOK BRUNO
Guest Paulo Posted September 25, 2006 Report Posted September 25, 2006 Build new loft, or put shed up to transfer stock birds into so I can use the new loft to race the young birds to. Cut hedge down so better trap into allotment and generally tidy the place up. Also going to concentrate on deciding what I am breeding off next year for young uns and concentrate on getrting everything sorted for 07 young bird season.
