Are you putting it on legs and meshing the bottom :-/

I would do what DOVEScot says if at all posible, but the dimensions mentioned are easily adequate for 20 rollers.

As long as they have plenty of air, the mesh at the bottom also allows the crap to fall to the ground and not polute the box with foul air if contained in the box, put a removable tray in for feeding them

I plan to make one and will post pics of it as I make it and explanations and tips as well, just like I did with the dovecote :)

Yes i am putting a grilled floor in and removable tray the front will look like a rabbit hutch with a door and mesh front i am putting this on top of my loft also what type of system should i use for the birds enterance and exit of box i have seen something where there is a sort of thin metal tube just longer than entrance hole to stop birds exiting but they can still get in

depends if you are going to have an open door system or let them out through the main door and bring them back in for feeding

This is what I fitted to Billy's loft while he was in hospital, it allows birds to come and go and deter predators from getting in

Have a look at this, not the best camera holder but gives you some idea

2 birds   per a foot square...

thats with racers anyway....

i would have thought 2 ft sq. per bird. with 1 1/2 ft min and 3 ft better. basically, with any stocking rate, as the density rises the daily workload increases and the stockmanship skills need to be better ( as disease risks rise ). if you are short of space then needs must but otherwise lower stocking rates make management easier.

this is not for breeding nor stock nor racers it is for a roller kit with plenty of ventalation and grilled floor with a slide out tray for easy cleaning i want to house 20 birds i was told 4 square foot will be enough but i just wanted to see what you guys thought before i go out and buy the wood and things i need to build my kit box

jimmy 4ft sq is plenty for a kit although mine are 4ft sq and 8ft tall but its down to prefferance.

there is no need for any fancy trapping systems keep it simple mate just get them using the door

just make sure its well ventilated

hi every1 thanks again for advice i am ordering some fresh wood as i had quite an accident with a saw not very good at DIY i was told that the birds will preform better if they are kept in the dark but i wanted to put a cage front on with bob wire enterances on the sides for them to trap into after i release them through the door

lol ive been down that road and found that keeping them in that sort of kit box has no advanteges it doesnt make them kit or peform any better and in some thing that size if you av one sick bird chances are they all are but each to there own

i was reading back you post and i could make 4 ft squared and 6ft tall with cage door for release and plenty of ventalation can you post pics of your boxes plz would like to have a look at a few different ideas before i make another attempt at building
