Guest Hjaltland Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Now that the moult is through, i am looking at the feeding levels for the next few months & was wondering what fanciers thoughts were on the amount to feed over the winter. I'm giving them 1oz a day right now... should it be cut back to less than this? or would a fair proportion of barley take care of this question? I dont want to feed too little!
pault Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 lucky u mine have still got 3 to go me personally i would feed the same level and with the same feed did me no harm this year 7 first from 15 races and topping the liverpool amal hope this helps no barley ps if it gets to cold i would up it to an oz and a quarter
Guest Hjaltland Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Thks pault. Over the years i have had problems with the hens pairing up over the winter and laying, then subsequent probs when it comes to pairing up in feb. Soooo i was thinking to try keepin the feed cut back. Oh, well done with your results this year! btw.
REDCHEQHEN Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Why would you think cutting the feed back would stop them pairing up ( its out of curiosity ) and like pault - we're still knee deep in feathers with none fully moulted out yet.
Sean Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 I was having this problem the hen's pairing up. So then i decided to pen them up. i now feed and water in pots and every couple of day let 1 out of a time to strech wings
Guest Hjaltland Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 Moult finished might have something to do with our northerly latitude... i dont know, but they are all lookin a treat now. The pairing up is a bit of a nuisance and when i asked fanciers re this last year it was suggested i feed a percentage of barley as a feed control.
Guest shadow Posted October 29, 2006 Report Posted October 29, 2006 I have always fed beans and barley after the moult has finished and had no problem with them trying to pair up
