pairing my birds up, would depend on the system and races i was tending to go for .ie mating w,cocks in jan and letting them rear and sit no longer than 9,,10 days on the second round  eggs, they would hold their flights , but sitting longer than that after rearing , would be far too advanced in the moult for the later races, if racing natural and intending going for the later, longer races i woudnt pair up till april,[ approx 10 weeks b4 intended long race] by long races i mean from 5 to over 600 miles, but as usual theres allways exeption to the rule :) :)

Pair up w/h anytime after Blackpool, as long as the birds are right, I'm right and the weathers right. Naturals will be paired up in March, again no fixed date.

:-/ Well pair the whole lot up on 19 th december all the birds will rear a y/b or 2 thought that have not filled ther eggs with have a floater from another nest

:P as this year i wont all the y.b to be the same age as when weaning. If & if i need to breed for others thay will come from the stock, as the  racing team then will be put on the  widowhood from then on wards. Plain simple  :X :X :X speck :)

I'm pairing 2nd of december and this is how I worked it out;

10 days to lay so that'll be 12th dec.

18 days to hatch so that'll be 30th dec.

young birds will be 6 days at time rings arrive.

then start training the young birds at 10 weeks old, thus plenty of training before they start racing, instead of leaving it to last minute (and losing a load)(as I did this season).

I've always paired up early and never had a problem, have lights and heaters in loft the birds think its summer lol.

all my birds are through the moult, normally by end of october (theres just one or two that aren't at the minute).

I put the heating and lights on for 2 weeks prior to pairing(to get them used to it) I put lights on so the birds have 9 hours of light per day (remember its dark nights) and I put the heating on at 15 degrees through the day and 10 degrees at night. (all the neighbours comment cause theres never been snow on the loft roof )

what happens if your rings are delayed mate? Postal strike, manufacturing problems etc you will be knacked then!

hope things go ok for you mate. Don't think I will be pairing until feb but only racing young birds so plenty of time

if you pair up early like me, your young birds are on the dark straight from weaning as I don't light the y.bird loft and it goes dark around tea-time.
