snowy Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 pigeon came back 2 months after last race, feet dirty, but looks in good shape, do these birds normally make good birds for the future? as ive heard a few people say that?
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 SOME DO AND SOME DON'T DEPENDS I THINK ON WHETHER IT WAS A GOOD BIRD TO START WITH
Guest WINGS 04 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 how do you know if it was a good bird it is only a young bird when it whent missing
Guest Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 i just got one back this morning from the 2 old bird race last year with a fairly clean rubber. so who ever has been racing her shame on you her number is sudf8181

Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 how do you know if it was a good bird it is only a young bird when it whent missing I HAVE PICKED OUT A FEW BIRDS THAT I RACED THIS YEAR RAB AND THEY FLEW REALLY WELL SO I WOULD CONSIDER THEM GOOD BIRDS, BECAUSE THEY WERE THERE OR THEREABOUTS EVERY WEEK
Guest ben Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 Hi Snowy, Living ff the land could well give that bird the edge it needs to turn into a top distance pigeon, make sure it`s healthy, then try tro give it the love of the loft and yourself,if it`s from well bred distance stuff,it will more than reward you in the future
Bobthegas Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 i bred from a bird which went missing for 3 months, bred good young, let it out after being in loft for 4 months.........gone missing. I dont wont it if it comes back!!!!!!!!!
mac1 Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 i got one on race day four weeks late, the way it came looked like a winner, that one was always in my top five before it was lost.
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 i would say that about 2 out of ten make good birds but normally they are disposed of so they never get the chance to proove themselves we had a young cock that went missing in its second race then turned up a week after the last race but only because it was a full brother to several winners we gave it a second chance as a yearling it won a first prize and several other prizes and this year won the NORTH WEST CLASSIC CLUB so yes sometimes it does pay to give them another chance
THE FIFER Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 IF IT CAME BACK UNDER ITS OWN IT IS WORTH ANOTHER CHANCE, IF IT HAS BEEN INTO SOMEONE WHILE AWAY THERE IS ALWAYS THE CHANCE IT WILL GO BACK WHEN RACING, BUT THEY ARE WORTH A CHANCE, I GOT ONE BACK LAST YEAR HAD BEEN LOST FOR MONTHS, RACED WELL THIS YEAR GETTING A COUPLE OS SOFT TICKETS BUT ALWAYS IN THE CLOCK.AND STILL THERE AT THE END, IT WAS LOST AS A YOUNG BIRD.
Wiley Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 id also concider what was the race day was like when the bird was lost to see if it was worth keeping
Guest Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 I had a bird go missing three years ago in our Young bird futurity race from 300 miles, she came back 6 months later and looked like she's been in someones loft. We kept her in for a couple of weeks then put her in with the other old birds for training. She never missed a beat and for the last two years she's taken 2nd place high point bird in our C race series.

snowy Posted November 11, 2006 Author Report Posted November 11, 2006 thanks all it was a bad weather day the last race, everone in the club lost some birds that day, we lost 2 , but that one came back, so worth giving a chance next year
jimmy white Posted November 11, 2006 Report Posted November 11, 2006 lost a bird in yb racing, it turned up 2 weeks b4 the first o,b race the following year , filthy black, but cleaned up in no time and finished up one of my best birds, and to be honest the only reason i kept it was i had plenty room and spare boxes, which it took to one like glue,,,cant say this is the norm , but this one was a good one
stevebelbin Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Similar experience for me, I had a cock bird that went missing as a Yb and turned up during the winter months and its one of my best cocks, he has won twice and scored loads of times. So give it a chance ;D
Guest anthony Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 Presently i have a chochlate brown hen enters the loft every 2 days, she wants to stay out flying most of the time.Yesterday she nearly turned me nuts, landed when my first bird arrived back from the race. This night she slept out side as usual it was raining as well, but seems like nothing boders her. After flying for 3 hours(1 hour with each section) she finaly droped in for a meal.Makes me very angry but I am going to give her all the time she wants to get used to the system. What do surprise me is the fact that without no food she still can do hours on the wing

carl Posted November 13, 2006 Report Posted November 13, 2006 I had a bird reported from a none fancier last year that i lost from the first oldbird race of the season selby 72 miles, this bird only flew the wrong way and ended up is essex.Anyway when i contacted the none fancier he had only managed to get a photo of the bird with ring number etc,he couldnt catch it. The bird lived on his garage roof for a good few weeks with a bowl of water and a bowl of rice.He sent me many pictures of her happy as larry on his roof. After he had asked me what to do next (not being able to catch her)i said chase her and put something on the roof to scare her, well thats what he did and she went,he emailed me loads of times asking if she made it home and the reply was no ,well for a year it was no then she turned up 12 months later almost to the day she went missing.I gave her to a new starter as she was well bred. The none fancier named her doris, one i will never forget
