The top 2 pics [blue bars] are by far the best, give abit of conditioning seed, few peanuts, brewers yeast, cider vinegar, garlic, lemon juice, beans,[the list is endless],all things used in moderation to induce show condition, you will in time find your own "winning combination" of the above and probably other things besides. One thing to remember though is that you never use depurative to induce show condition, you use it to break down birds after a show definately not before, and remember clean feet and rings, good luck :)

Fat Birds aint eye catchers for the right reason though so how do you get them looking sharper, trimmer and not so lethargic? Starvation perhaps?? Plenty of stuff in a good depuritive mix to make them shine!

Hey superstar. When you say sharper are you meaning thinner. Cause trust me when I say you wont win any shows with thin birds. I have stated before that the bird needs to have some scope about it in the pen and Jasons pigeons are looking spot on as they are. Am not saying have them fat as no one likes this but they should be bigger at show time compared to what they are at racing season. Just keep what your doing Jason as your birds are spot on mate. And remember what I told you to do to help tighten them up ok

I dont mean thin as in skinny and nowhere did I mention racing weight, but a trimmer bird is a better bird compared with a fat one which is basically what you are saying yourself. I keep out and out racers and have entered them in shows and never come away without half a dozen or so cards so cant be that thick and stupid. The second pic's show the birds to not be so over weight but still my tilt would be a couple of days depuritive on some of them. Gone off the original pick of No7 but still think No8 or pic2 as it now is will be the best of the bunch there. Stick the red 'un in too, some judges love them from my experience.

Agree superstar.... Number 2 and 8 really take the eye and also red as judge might not be a blue man

will do

i fancy pic 8 well it says 009 the big blue cock

this would be my pick no problem :)  cant see in the pic, if his last flight is right up [fully grown] ,, bring him indoors overnight :) make sure hes well fed long b4 going into the show, as  he could bring the grub back up during the traveling,, best of luck,, all nice birds ,, theres another b, cheq cock ,looks  3 or 4 years old a very nice bird , but would still go for the b bar :) :),, ive found b4 the less tampering with them the better , so any steaming feathers , cleaning feet , the odd dirty bit , would do the day b4 , then keep him in basket overnight,,,,, he would look nice with a red card next to him :)

few side veiws as promised

021 and 022 the dark chequer and ash red for me Jason. Anyone have the details as to what the judges look for in racers, i.e. do they take colour/pattern into account?

the show is through the wire mate and ive been told they look for condition

im really hoping they do me proud again this coming sunday

fingers crossed

Kinda hard to judge condition through the wire I think, although suppose they are well experienced to do this. Another thing is judges will have their own agendas!!! Surely there are hard fast rules as to size, shape, form etc. etc. because you would expect all entries to be in top condition. I think the fancy birds are judged from head to toe on strict guidelines so surely the racer is judged the same. Maybe Chrissy will enlighten us as I know from this site she has been quite successful in her shows. Good luck.
