Guest Vic Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 Well Guys here I go again. Without spluttering out a life times adventure. The anti- anti-biotic brigade, will have their eyes opened before not too very long. One instance that does stand out i.e.:- How did the great medicine man, Pierre Dordin breed a type of bird that never lost its dominance whatever it was crossed with, all them years ago? Anyway, I'm getting off the point that I was meaning to talk about. ;)It concerns my own set up at this time of the year, hoping to pair up towards the end of January. This year I ended up with 22 young cocks from my 38 yb team. After culling two, I finished up with 20. ;D for those who aren't too good at maths. No! I am typing as it comes, sorry. In October I emptied the ob widowhood loft, relocating them to the yb loft, thus leaving 20 vacant boxes for the young cocks to claim in the main W/H loft which has three sections, i.e. 8, 8, 12. I will be returning 8 old cocks to their original haunts in the next week or so, (if you are still with me). These 8 cocks are 2 to 3 year olds. The remaining cocks in the yb loft, all seasoned distance birds, totallng 9 after the seasonal autumn cull. will be going to pastures anew.i.e. the now, not used Stock Shed. adjacent to their old w/h loft. My six pair of stock birds will be moving to a mates loft of mine, who has had pigeons as long as myself, as a matter of fact, this guy has paid his fees in the nfc for the last 30 years at least. Why? He says he likes to be part of it. By the way he never competed himself, but run guys down to Crewe on numereous occasions. Anyhow getting back, I normally don't race as many birds , usually leaving half a dozen boxes vacant, but with the shambles from last seasons defra involvement still fresh in my mind, I have decided to, at least be in contention more often than last season. So as you can see , I have changed things around a little to say the least, also the w/h hens will be housed behind the main loft, making my work much easier, no basketing whatsoever. I witnessed something the other day that was enthralling to say the least. I let all the cocks out together! the scene was chaotic, just imagine, ybs in their first ever box, obs that think after 3 to 5 years the box is paid for. Yes! quite breathtaking at this time of year. I haven't even paired up yet. CONDITION TO BOOT! Motivation for 2007? The mind is still not settled. hence this topsy turvy article. Don't be surprised if Vic records the fastest velocity on the day, throughout the entire United Kingdom and Ireland during the 2007 season once again. Wher'es that whisky? Phew! ;) ;D
Roland Posted December 31, 2006 Author Report Posted December 31, 2006 Pierre Dordin was a grear observer and Stockman first and second. Then thirdly of course he learnt to fly them lol
